    Something new...Wearing socks while black

    What next?

White property manager fired after calling police on black family because man was 'wearing socks'
Another day, another strange racist calling the police on a black family in a public setting for no good reason. This time it is Tennessee, and an apartment complex pool where (now former) community manager Erica Walker decided that resident Kam Porter and her boyfriend needed a talking to. On July 4, Porter, her boyfriend, and two godchildren, went to the pool. Porter’s boyfriend was wearing socks, sitting on the side of the pool, watching the kids play in the water. According to a Facebook post, Porter explained that Walker came over to admonish him twice, leading to Porter asking what was wrong. When Walker explained that the pool had a no socks, hats, none-swim attire in the pool rule—Porter pointed out that virtually everyone else there, in the water, were wearing hats and T-shirts, and basketball shorts. The only difference here seemed to be that Kam Porter, her boyfriend and the two little kids were the only black people at the pool.

    […]

In the video, Porter pans over the pool to show all of the non-black people breaking these “important” rules. When Porter says she wasn’t going to be singled out Walker told her “I’ll just call the police.” The police came, and Walker didn’t get the satisfaction she was looking for as the officer didn’t see the issue the same way that she did. Porter was rightfully offended, said she was leaving, and asked the officer to stay until she and her boyfriend and the two children left.

These kind of stories have been popping up more and more lately.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A white man who challenged a black family’s use of a private community’s pool has not only resigned from the homeowners association board — he’s lost his job.

Sonoco announced Friday that Adam Bloom is no longer employed by the packaging and industrial products company, saying it doesn’t condone discrimination of any kind, even if it happens outside its workplace.

Maybe the feel more comfortable doing these kinds of things in today's political climate?

On the other end, some black people cry racism anytime they don't want to follow a rule. Our PM and the security guys never selectively enforce. It doesn't matter what color you are if you are wearing socks in the pool or have too many guests or don't have your card, you are leaving the pool, by police if necessary.

I was summarily kicked out and followed home my first trip to the pool here for lacking my 'amenities card' or at least an ID with this address listed. The following me home was to make sure I lived here, because if I did not, I was in for a trespassing charge.

Every summer, all summer, the PM and the security staff are screamed at that they are racist when enforcement is applied to black owners, tenants, or 'guests' (people that do not live here, but want to use our pool). Not all of them, of course, but enough to make every summer at the pool miserable for them.

You apparently didn't read the article. He was NOT in the pool...white people wearing shirts and hats and non-swim attire WERE in the pool, but not told to leave. He was there with his GF who IS a resident...he was her guest.

He put his feet in the water with his socks on. I have read several articles with conflicting stories but one thing remains constant, PM Patty was selectively enforcing rules and was fired for that.

I was just adding into the topic that often black people accuse racism when they don't want to follow a rule. On the 4th, my 7-11 said everyone had to actually physically have their ID to buy alcohol. Even if they were 80. A black woman was very upset about this and when all else failed started saying they are racist and didn't check white people's IDs, on and on. The two clerks were black, it didn't make sense, but IJS that this is a new normal go to argument.

She may not have picked on him because he was black. It could be that socks in the pool are more offensive than hats. It wasn't smart to selectively enforce, but that doesn't make it racism.

If she had ejected a white man for wearing socks but not others for wearing hats we wouldn't be hearing about it.

Was it always this bad, or has Trump made the bigots amongst us fearless?

The 7/11 customer had a point (it's a stupid policy, applied to people over 40), but this does not mean it was racist. The customer was right-wrong.

One could ask what was her motivation to ask the gentleman to leave yet not see the other rule breakers breaking the same rule.

What if no racial issue was brought up. What if the gentleman only saw the clear double standard.

All things equal, what is the difference? The most evident is race.
