Racism & Sexism... Is One Worse Than The Other?

In another thread, someone stated that racism is worse than sexism because for years and years women have accepted a secondary role to men.

That kind of thinking really blew me away.

I see it as the same defect in the person exhibiting the behavior. The main difference being on who it is directed towards. Wrong is wrong.

Well stated. I could not agree more.

Prejudice sets us ALL back, not just the targets of prejudice, even though, they certainly feel it's sting worse.

BUT, prejudice is also in ALL of us, at least to a certain degree. Now, we can certainly reject it, but, still...that is an ongoing personal struggle.

No different. Superiority and Inferiority is the same no matter the context.

Please. In most aspects of life, women are and have been traditionally seen as subservient, and lesser than men. What is ironic is that I had an incredible mother, who defined for me what a superwoman must be. As a result, I revere women, actually. I am a gentleman, in their presence and cater to them. Who would have thunk? Not some.
My favorite movies stars and musicians are women. I watch women's programming. And some of my best friends are women.

When women are in traditional relationships with men...do they not expect to be treated like "queens", or is it "kings"? Do they not like doors opened for them, and chairs pulled out, and flowers, and chocolates and cards, and diamonds and bling and dinners out on the town? Are men the same way? Of course not. So let's not pretend that there is a world of difference between women and men, their expectations and their outlooks.
I believe in equality for all. Women should be paid the same amount as a man for the same work. They should not be discriminated in the workplace or any other place. Hell, women in Israel actually serve in combat capacities that American servicewomen do not. Can you do the job should be the only criterion. I am not a sexist. I am a realist. Do not confuse the two.

I think it's more socially acceptable to be sexist than a racist. Before you all start putting words in my mouth, I'm not saying it's right...I'm saying I think more get away with being sexist than a racist.

Was your mother one of those "bitches" you keep telling us about?
