Wasn't there a plan in the 50's to detonate a nuke on the moon after the Russian's beat us with Sputnik? Supposed to be visible from Earth and restore US morale or some such?

Well, we DO have plenty of EXTRA nukes, in case we ever wanna create some new craters on the Moon.

haha that surely would a spectacular sight for moon gazers. looking up and seeing a massive bright flash on the moon.
it seems to indicate that it would have been visible to the naked eye.

    I CAN'T WAIT!

(But, damn, I hope everything goes well....)

Elon Musk is quickly becoming one of my favorite Human Beings.

I suspect, that at some point in our species future (IF there is one...), we will have Space Vessels named the "Elon Musk."

The most recent major impact crater on the Moon is the crater named after Giordano Bruno (who was executed by the Catholic Church for 'heresy'). It is possible that some medieval monks may have actually WITNESSED the impact that created this crater:

Oh and SpaceX is getting plenty of taxpayer dollars in tax credits and grants too. But forgetting all that, and all the taxpayer money that created the field of space exploration itself, yeah. No taxpayer dollars required.
It's like when the Right claims "the Free Market and capitalism created the Internet"....

and they "forget" that it was originally the DARPAnet...a government-funded project.
