    BlackBerry Ready to Hack Its Users If the Government Wants It To
    Company CEO says they’d try to break encryption if needed
    By Bogdan Popa

    http://news.softpedia.com/news/black...o-518296.shtml

    "If you were still looking for a reason why BlackBerry is currently holding an insignificant market share in the mobile business, here you go."
    "The company’s CEO has just confirmed that they’re ready to break customer encryption should they be asked by the government, basically admitting they are willing to compromise the security of any user at a time when other tech giants are fighting against law enforcement to prevent this from happening."
    "And it doesn’t end here. While most large tech companies provide transparency reports to disclose how many requests they received from governments to access user data, not only that BlackBerry never did it, but they also don’t plan on doing it anytime soon. And the reason is odd, to say the least."

    Very Interesting Information for Blackberry users to be well aware of!

    Exclamation Microsoft Finally Brings Forced Windows Upgrades to an End

    Microsoft Finally Brings Forced Windows Upgrades to an End
    By Bogdan Popa

    http://news.softpedia.com/news/micro...d-517471.shtml

    "The Get Windows 10 app, which was developed from the very beginning to provide a smoother way to upgrade from Windows 7 and 8.1 to Windows 10 by automatically downloading the necessary files, proved to be a huge pain in the neck for users, especially because in some cases, the whole thing happened without their consent."
    "This is how, despite refusing the upgrade to Windows 10, some users ran out of storage space or even bandwidth, simply because the Get Windows 10 app downloaded several gigabytes of data to prepare the PC for the new operating system."
    "Truth be told, the forced upgrades have until now caused pretty big problems to Microsoft, including a lawsuit that the company lost in mid-2016. The software giant agreed to pay $10,000 in damages to Teri Goldstein of Sausalito, California who complained that her computer was automatically upgraded to Windows 10, making it substantially slower and impacting the work she was doing at her travel agency."

    ================================================== ==

    Perhaps that is why so many are sticking to their old OS despite they not being supported any longer by MS? Too many problems still to be ironed out with Windows 10.

    Exclamation Microsoft Sued After Windows 10 Upgrade “Destroyed Users’ Computers”

    Microsoft Sued After Windows 10 Upgrade “Destroyed Users’ Computers”
    By Bogdan Popa

    http://news.softpedia.com/news/micro...s-514255.shtml

    "In the lawsuit documents (via The Reg), the plaintiffs explain that Microsoft did not “exercise reasonable care in designing, formulating, and manufacturing the Windows 10 upgrade,” becoming responsible for damages caused to users in the form of data loss and hardware issues."
    "The plaintiffs are seeking class-action status, explaining there are hundreds of thousands of angry users in the United States who got their computers broken down because of the forced upgrade to Windows 10."
    "Microsoft has already issued a statement as a response to the lawsuit, explaining that these claims are without merit, as all Windows 10 users had 30 days to downgrade to their previous operating systems after the switch to Windows 10 if they weren’t satisfied with the new OS."

    ================================================== ==

    That's why many still as of this day have not upgraded to Windows 10. First there was the spyware concern that was being so talked about on the Internet plus other problems. Now this.

    Exclamation Google Detects New Android Malware That Can Spy on Users

    Google Detects New Android Malware That Can Spy on Users
    By Bogdan Popa

    http://news.softpedia.com/news/googl...s-518737.shtml

    "Google discovered a new form of malware injected into a series of apps published on the Google Play Store and capable of stealing sensitive data from compromised devices."
    "The search firm says it first detected the Tizi backdoor in September 2017 when Google Play Protect discovered an application with rooting capabilities on an Android device downloading an app from the Play store. Google Play Protect is the company’s own security solution for apps published in the store, and it automatically scans every download to make sure no malware is injected."
    "Google used the Play Store to remove the infected apps from a total of 1,300 compromised devices, and the company recommends users to check permissions for each installed app, secure the lock screen, update devices, and enable Google Play Protect."

    ================================================== ==

    Android apparently continues to be plagued by malware which is not good. The manufacturers of the apps need to pay closer attention to this pervasive problem and assure that their products are kept safe at all times for consumers as much as is possible instead of having others find the malware.

    Exclamation Microsoft Might Have Helped HP Install Spyware on Users’ Windows Computers

    Microsoft Might Have Helped HP Install Spyware on Users’ Windows Computers
    By Bogdan Popa

    http://news.softpedia.com/news/micro...s-518766.shtml
    "HP is the latest big name dragged into a scandal involving spying allegations, as the company has reportedly installed spyware on customers’ computers with a driver update that might collect data without consent."
    "The driver update was shipped to users via the integrated Windows Update and deployed automatically on Windows computers, obviously without displaying a prompt or asking for consent."
    "The problem with this new HP software is that it slows down computers and is reportedly collecting some data that’s silently sent to the parent company – this is a behavior that is suggested straight by the name of the service, though it’s very clear that user consent should be given before the data collection starts."

    ================================================== ==

    Hmmm, not good news by any means. Anyone use HP products?

    There have also been reports of many people not being able to download the monthly MS Windows updates, the large one especially, the Security Monthly Quality Rollup. That problem appears to be growing but with news like this it makes one wonder if those monthly updates are truly worth the effort of downloading and if they are indeed safe given these latest news? It's always good to keep your Anti-Virus and Anti-Malware software up to date, however, for extra protection!

    I have an HP computer and I hate it!

    My hard drive... it runs when the computer is supposed to be sitting there, unplugged from the internet, not running anything.

    And it seems to really run my drive a lot during gaming, much more so than my old Dell from 2001...

    And I could never get the backup disc scenario to work, I'm just as vulnerable as someone without it.

    It's time for a new system, and it won't be an HP, that's for certain!

    Thx

    @Thx1138 Wise choice! There were stories since years ago about spyware, etc. on their printers, etc. Btw, are you familiar with this new item about HP?

    HP is installing spyware on its machines disguised as an "analytics client"
    By John Keefer

    https://www.neowin.net/news/hp-is-in...alytics-client

    "Heads up, HP users. It appears the $3.5 million Lenovo verdict was not enough of a spyware deterrent for HP, as it now appears the company is installing spyware on its computers without asking permission from users."
    "The culprit software is called HP Touchpoint Analytics Service, with the latest client version being 4.0.2.1435. It is described on the official HP site:"

    It's such a shame what has happened to HP.

    I have a background in electronics and HP used to be one of the most respected names in the field.

    Just a stuff-together company, and a big part of it was their customer service, they really gave a damn.

    This was back before they made PCs, back when they made equipment like this...

    Our company made some of the parts that went into the inkjet printer, I got to work pretty closely with a couple of their engineers and they were first-rate.

    Thx
