    Use This App to Check for Meltdown & Spectre Bugs, Determine Update Slowdown
    By Bogdan Popa

    "As we’ve already told you, there are already apps to help you with this, but another one that promises to offer some extra options and info has only recently been released for download."
    "Called InSpectre, this little tool doesn’t require an Internet connection and installation, and can instantly scan your computer to determine whether it’s vulnerable to Meltdown and Spectre bugs when launched."

    ================================================== ==

    It is said that systems with AMD can be affected by Spectre but not by Meltdown. This new tool can check on that.

    Heres a youtuber tutorial on how to detect/fix Meltdown and Spectre. It uses the detection tool Demowhip mentioned above.

    Thanks from DemoWhip

    Might as well take the steps...

    Unfortunately, being a hardware "bug" there are limits to what can be done.

    It probably will be within months that this round of patches gets beaten and all data is open again.

    Exclamation 75% of PCs Not Patched Against Meltdown and Spectre, Companies Say

    75% of PCs Not Patched Against Meltdown and Spectre, Companies Say
    By Bogdan Popa

    "Intel promised to release Meltdown and Spectre security patches for 90 percent of PCs by the end of this week, but it turns out that despite the updates being available in the wild, organizations arenít very keen on securing their computers."
    "A survey conducted by Barkly reveals that less than 26 percent of the systems managed by IT and security pros have received the Meltdown and Spectre updates, with only 4 percent of the respondents saying that all their machines got them."
    "And itís getting worse. No less than 46 percent of the organizations that were part of the survey said they werenít aware that in order to deploy Meltdown and Spectre patches antivirus solutions needed to be compatible and a registry key was required to deal with it."

    Here's a further update on the Meltdown and Spectre situation.

    Exclamation Do No install Spectre BIOS Updates, Dell Say

    Do No install Spectre BIOS Updates, Dell Say
    By Bogdan Popa

    "Dell is the latest company to join the Meltdown and Spectre update fiasco, as it rolled out an advisory for its customers to recommend against installing the latest security patches that address the Spectre variant 2 vulnerability."
    "In a tech document published on its website, Dell EMC explains that users who havenít yet installed the latest BIOS updates are recommended to delay deployment, while those who already did it should try rolling back to the previous version."
    "Dell says the problem resides in the security updates shipped by Intel and included in its own firmware updates, which could cause reboot issues and system freezes. The company has already pulled the affected BIOS updates, as itís working on new versions to address the problems."

    Exclamation Microsoft to Ban Free Cleaners Asking for Money to Optimize Systems

    Microsoft to Ban Free Cleaners Asking for Money to Optimize Systems
    By Bogdan Popa

    "Windows Defender and other Microsoft security products will be updated to block and remove software that tries to convince Windows 10 users to purchase solutions supposed to help optimize the system."
    "Starting March 1, 2018, the company will no longer allow applications like system optimization tools, malware cleaners, or registry cleaners which offer free scanning capabilities but then ask for a paid license in order to complete the cleaning process."

    ================================================== ==

    That is a very good thing that Microsoft is doing! There are many websites that offer to scan your computer to find malware, etc. and then find a lot of it but in order to get rid of it you have to pay them for extra software. That should not be allowed to happen and MS is now taking the much needed steps to eliminate that pervasive long-standing problem.

    Exclamation How to Create a System Image to Back Up Windows 10 Fall Creators Update

    How to Create a System Image to Back Up Windows 10 Fall Creators Update
    By Bogdan Popa

    "Backing up data is a thing that everyone should do in order to prevent data loss, and the most recent ransomware attacks have shown just how important it is to prepare for the worst and be able to restore data fast."
    "One of the things that Microsoft is trying to do right now in Windows 10 is get rid of the classic Control Panel and move all options to the Settings app. And while the company has removed the easiest ways to launch Control Panel, options to create a system image for backup purposes are still there. This means at first glance, reaching this functionality isn’t as straightforward as it is supposed to be."

    Exclamation Leaked NSA Exploits Can Now Hack Any Windows Version

    Leaked NSA Exploits Can Now Hack Any Windows Version
    By Bogdan Popa

    "Exploits that were stolen from the NSA last year and which were believed to target older Windows releases have been tweaked to potentially impact all versions of Microsoftís operating system back to Windows 2000."
    "What Dillon managed to do (via BetaNews) was to modify the exploits to target two different vulnerabilities that exist in the majority of Windows version. The exploits were then included in the Metasploit Framework, and can impact even the newest operating systems, like Windows 10, which were originally believed to be immune to flaws stolen from the NSA."
    "In documentation published on GitHub, Dillon explains that vulnerable targets are Windows versions released between 2000 and 2016, and attackers can obtain admin rights on a compromised host."

    Exclamation How to Uninstall Broken Windows 10 Updates

    How to Uninstall Broken Windows 10 Updates
    The same method can be used for any Windows version
    By Bogdan Popa

    "Microsoft typically recommends users to install Windows updates as soon as possible, and this is one of the reasons the company says itís a good idea to keep Windows Update automatic updates turned on."
    "And while this is indeed a good approach to remain secure, history has shown that botched updates can ruin everything, from Windows features to the complete operating system."
    "And, more importantly, the methods described here can be performed on any Windows version, though the steps might be a little bit different."

    ================================================== ==

    That is great information for those problematic updates that may be causing some problems.

    Exclamation Microsoft Starts Testing Windows 10 Without Passwords

    Microsoft Starts Testing Windows 10 Without Passwords
    By Bogdan Popa

    "Microsoft is one of the largest companies thinking that passwords are so yesterday, and the company truly wants to deliver a more secure means of authenticating in Windows 10."
    "And with the most recent Insider preview release – build 17093 – Microsoft has started testing a new feature that essentially makes Windows 10 a password-less operating system."

    ================================================== ==

    Because PRIVACY MATTERS what I always feel is more problematic are those devices that want to sign you on using your fingerprint or thumbprint or the iris in your eyes. That is giving up entirely too much information and I can't imagine people not knowing that it is doing just that. So, caution should be exercised to think it through and how it could possibly have an impact on you and your life. After all, that's akin to giving out your most private information that might possibly also be used for?? Don't know if that is going to be the case here but it is currently being used in other devices and that trend could well continue into other devices where sign-ins are necessary as well.

    It is still much preferable using the current password log-ins. They are safe enough in most cases when you use a long password with at least 8 letters and numbers and alternating small and capital letters.
