    Stigmata Explained

Italian Scientists Report Patient Who Sweats Blood

The 21-year-old patient entered a medical ward following three years of bleeding from her palms and face. She didn’t have any cuts and nothing seemed to cause or trigger her bleeding episodes. Her condition was so bad that she’d isolated herself and developed symptoms consistent with depression and panic disorder.

After observing the patient and treating her for her depression and anxiety, the Florentine doctors diagnosed the patient with “hematohidrosis,” the rare condition of “blood sweat.” But even to this day, doctors don’t know what causes the condition—and some are skeptical as to its existence. An analysis of the patient’s skin turned up nothing abnormal, as the researchers reported in the Canadian Medical Association Journal.

This sounds like a very plausible explanation for the "miracle" of stigmata. Of course, most cases are simply faked. But those few that are not faked ... well, it sounds like we have a viable medical explanation.

Rack it up there with the burning bush that secretes flammable oils which can burn without consuming the plant itself.

Yea this has been around for quite awhile.

We conspiracists debunked the Stigmata quite a few years ago.

That one was a bit depressing, I was hoping we wouldn't find an answer to it but alas, we did.

Was there a movie by this name? All I know is the title inspired fear and a vague recollection of what I think was a demonic movie. *shivers*

Yet your source notes "doctors donít know what causes the condition . . . An analysis of the patientís skin turned up nothing abnormal." That hardly debunks stigmata.

The author made more than one factual error while writing that article. He should have fact checked his assumptions with an actual medical professional prior to publishing the article.

Yes... I watch a LOT of horror movies on my train commute, and I recall watching one called "Stigmata." Slightly better than average, I recall.
