Well Antarctica was a tropical paradise back in the day.

All that material didn't simply disappear with the glaciers which typically pick up the sediment and move it to the back of the ice flow and dump it.

I'm hardly an expert in this area so perhaps someone who has a little more knowledge can chime in.

Their structure as cells doesn't matter. Their DNA doesn't matter. Test them for harmful chemicals. If they just have cells that don't appear naturally, so what?

The real question is taste, price, and nutrition.
One of the things I find incredible (and frustrating) is that the statement you made, which essentially boils down to "a calorie is a calorie", should be self evident yet remains an unsolved riddle which leads to a lot of debate. White sugar is a carbohydrate, so is brown rice, so is an apple, are all equal in terms of their carbohydrate contents effect on the body for fuel & composition?

Fats are bad, fats are good. Eggs are bad, eggs are great. Chicken is good, chicken causes cancer.

A 60c/30p/10f diet is appropriate but 80f/10/10 works too.

My favorite is "take your vitamins", turns out they aren't worth the effort. Multivitamins are really interesting because you absolutely need the content to maintain a healthy system but as it turns out the method of delivery matters. It was crudely described as a bisycle to me, you need wheels, you need a seat, you need a chain, but these things don't make a bike.

We know so very little about nutrition, and my problem with the science & the industry is that we start from a place were we assume no health risk. We remove fat, increase carbs and tell people everything is fine in moderation and then it's the job of science to prove the opposite.

I'm looking at the food industry like, these people don't even know if I can drink milk, and they're going to release synthesized foods and tell me they're safe.

I just read this article which talks about various "meats" either made from plant materials or from growing actual animal/fish cells in an artificial environment.

These methods would be much more sustainable, require less land and less water and generate far fewer pollutants.

But GM techniques are used and there are GM components of these products.

In many ways (assuming they taste OK and consumers accept them) they would be a good thing in the world. But there are some who fear they have not been sufficiently tested and may pose a risk.

The story isn't long and is quite interesting.

7th day Adventist have had meatless meat for about a century. Nothing new here.

Meatless meat is to synthetic meat as artificial turf is to Kentucky blue grass

IMO a GMO would be safer.

Today, lab-grown meat is prohibitively expensive. It's a sure bet that the price will drop (and availability will increase) over the next decade or two. Not sure what they'll call it. After all, can you call lab-grown chicken meat "chicken" if it has never been inside of a bird? It's comprised of chicken muscle cells, just like regular chicken. But it will eventually be cheaper and safer than the stuff we buy today.
