    so, ok..I know I'm going to botch this geek-speak. But, as I understand it, they have equipment set up to detect objects that may be on a course to collide with the Earth. Using that equipment they can calculate the speed and the course ( and presumably how far away it had to have been in order for them not to detect it until when they did). It's in the vid. Also, they're stumped by the shape. Because comments in our solar system aren't shaped like that.

    The trajectory doesn't match typical objects that belong to this solar system. As for age, anyone's guess, but it must have traveled a long way, for a long time...
