he looks like Odo mated with a Klingon.

Talking 100's of millions of years traveling here.
Not so unlikely when you think of it.
    Thanks from Ian Jeffrey

star trek quips aside this is very interesting. obviously for decades astronomers has theorised that interstellar comets are out there and now we have found the first one. I find it very interesting that they think at any one time there may be as many as 10,000 in our solar system.

also what is with that bizarre shape? maybe every single star system has unique comets and asteroids that are specifically unique to it. maybe comets and asteroids in all other star systems are nothing like what we've been seeing in our own 'backyard' for all these centuries.

Here's a local asteroid that's made of metal and shaped like a dog bone. It's called Kleopatra, and if it was spinning much faster it would separate into two asteroids. The thing is primarily nickel-iron but there's bound to be other heavy elements involved, like platinum and iridium. Pretty cool, huh? I wonder how long before we'll be mining those things.

I wonder how long we'll be able to send a probe to one of these interstellar asteroids/comets

now theres a search from SETI to see if this is an alien intelligence.

SETI will scan the asteroid to see if there are any signs of it being an alien artefact.
