    Facebooks Downward Spiral

I'm going to use this thread to consolidate the many articles I've been reading about this company, their practices and their userbase.

Elon Musk deletes SpaceX and Tesla Facebook Pages, axing more than 5 million followers

    https://venturebeat.com/2018/03/23/elon-musk-deletes-spacex-and-tesla-facebook-pages-axing-more-than-5-million-followers/

Elon Musk today ordered staff at his business SpaceX to delete its Facebook Page. Other Musk ventures, such as Tesla and SolarCity, also deleted their Facebook Pages. Combined, SpaceX and Tesla had more than 5 million followers. The move was made in less than an hour, in response to a challenge from a Twitter user.Muskís order follows Mozillaís announcement Wednesday that it will no longer advertise on Facebook. Itís the latest round of backlash for the social media giantís role in the Cambridge Analytica scandal.
Though Mozilla and Musk have taken decidedly anti-Facebook stands, it does not appear that many companies have deleted their Facebook Pages or stopped advertising with the social media giant.

This platform deserves to die. The best case scenario anyone can hope for on it is that there's no lasting damage that they know about.

Want your family to see photos of your vacation? Use instagram.

Don't volunteer to have your brain washed.

Here is Mark making a slight case for a pay-for service where your data isn't collected... and also confirming the current business model of selling/sharing your information, even with people who will violate user's and even Facebook's trust.

Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg summoned for congressional testimony - Business Insider

The Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation requested public testimony from Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Friday, adding to the list of congressional panels looking to haul in the company's top executives.

"During our time leading the Commerce Committee, several questions about Facebook's responsibilities and obligations to users have arisen even as the company's reach and importance have grown," said Republican Sen. John Thune and Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson in a joint statement on behalf of the committee. "As a result, we have decided to ask Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg to testify before our committee."

"On a bipartisan basis, we believe Mr. Zuckerberg's testimony is necessary to gain a better understanding of how the company plans to restore lost trust, safeguard users' data, and end a troubling series of belated responses to serious problems," the two senators added. "We appreciate the efforts Facebook and its employees have already made to assist our committee and will work with them to find a suitable date for Mr. Zuckerberg to testify in the coming weeks."
I would love to see this.

    Facebook's loss is our gain/lesson.

Firefox in 2018: We'll tackle bad ads, breach alerts, autoplay video, says Mozilla | ZDNet

How this shakeup is forming other companies.

Mozilla has dropped all Facebook advertising and is pulling their own weight in this department.

Caution: video auto plays (and the article is about how Mozilla is putting in a feature to turn off auto play, lol).

I understand. There is certainly other outlets out there for people to use.

I think one of the best for posting text and images is the underrated Tumblr. Yes they do allow users to post porn, but you can build a web page with text and images and just post that to your friends and family. They don't even have to know it's Tumblr outside of the URL and they will only see your page. You can give them access and they can post on that page too.

Well I am shocked to find out that Facebook engaged in targeted advertising. Shocked, I tell you.

Seriously people, how did you think Facebook made money?
