Often wondered how certain things became "yummy." I mean look at cocoa beans and coffee. Who picked them off a tree and said "you know what, if I mix in sugar and cream it will be delicious."

My real motivation for quitting shellfish generally was not the mere desire to start eating kosher (which was a gradual process), but because I was in a market with live seafood and saw a crab crawling around. It looked like a giant insect and I was suddenly grossed out. After that, I could not eat any more shellfish, whether crab, shrimp, scallops ... never liked lobster anyway, so that was fairly easy in any case.

LOL seitan is good, i am making some on friday with my sister. Its made with vital wheat gluten...you make a dough of it and then boil it in a broth with your choice of spices for whatever flavor profile you are looking for. Cooking is nothing but chemistry.

Yes, but.......I was relating a story to some students once about some idiots at a Domino's pizza joint who were putting their BOOGERS on some sub sandwiches, and then shipping them out to paying customers. These idiots were filming themselves and posting it all on YouTube. Of course they got fired, but it hurt Domino's business for the better part of a half-year, I think.

Anyway, I was kind of SHOCKED by the reaction of one of my students, who just shrugged and said, "Hey, it's only molecules."

I don't CARE if it's only molecules, man! It's GROSS!

This great video contains a very interesting explanation of Lab-Grown Meat. However, personally, I still have reservations about the process used due to whether it is totally safe.

When synthetic meat finally does come to my local supermarket, I plan to go and purchase it in my flying car.

How inconvenient. I'll just have it delivered by drone. Eventually, of course, I'll just 3D print it at home. Or have it teleported from some central manufacturing facility.

At some point, of course, I'll go full-cyborg, and then I'll just need electricity, not food.

I always wondered how bread was invented. The yeast, the kneading, the rising, more kneading. How did ancient people figure out how to get the results they wanted?

Or how they chose the lucky person to see if something was poisonous, or safe to eat.
