One Good Reason Americans Don't Know Much About Climate Change

Is because even our college science textbooks don't discuss it very much:

You don't need no stinking science when you have that good ole Jesus to save your lot.

During the Reagan Administration, our Secretary of the Interior James Watt said we didn't need to 'conserve resources', because Jesus was coming again soon.

So, although you were probably joking, this is no joking matter. There ARE Americans, many of them, who think along exactly those lines.

The only reason James Watt lost his job, and was fired, was because he got on the bad side of Nancy Reagan, by going after the Beach Boys, calling them a bunch of pot-smokers, and trying to get them banned from a 4th of July celebration in our nation's capitol.

Nancy LIKED the Beach Boys. So much for James Watt.

    I wasn't joking.

Ignorance and bigotry are strong in America.

Sometimes it seems US fascism is right around the corner.

Maybe it's been there all along, though?

Maybe if we started calling it global scorching, people would start paying more attention?

Exactly, science textbooks should be teaching science, not every fly by night hypothesis dreamed up to scare people into higher taxes.
