Maybe your family is really Jewish and lost that knowledge somewhere along the line. Such a thing is not unknown, for example:

Great if the New York dwellers want to have to go to the Nevada desert to put flowers on loved one's graves.

That is interesting. My sister is working on our family tree and so far she is tracing us back to Ireland, Scotland and the UK on both sides. My grandmother's best friend was Jewish in Kentucky. The lady sold thimbles and thread door to door and they became really good friends. I have decided to attend rabbinical school to become a Rabbi since I found out that women can study for it. I will tell them I am a Crypto-Jewish woman. No kosher for me tho....it is too complicated.

Not really useless forever. The park system in London (and probably a lot of other cities in Europe too) are the remnants of mass graves from when the Black Death killed off 1/2 of Europe.

Playground or plague ground? Mass graves where we live, work and picnic in London

Of course, you would have to be in one of the liberal movements (e.g., Reform, Reconstructionist, some Conservative) ... you would not be eligible in the Orthodox world.

    You have no idea...
Nope...the first female Rabbi was Lila Kagedan who is Orthodox.

I might be a little too savage for Orthodox but not opposed to starting my own movement...

So at some point they accepted the second sentence of my post. But around here anyway, I don't see it happening any time soon.

I'm guessing that Jeffrey Dahmer was not an Orthodox Jew.

I heard that he was searching for a bigger apartment because he needed a little more 'elbow room'.
