Is Sexual Harassment A Real Thing?

What is it? Does it still go on? Why does the subject upset some women so much?

In 2013, the Director of the prestigious Cleveland Museum of Art abruptly resigned after a former female staff member who had accused him of sexual harassment was found dead in her home. The case was closed as a suicide by the local police, despite findings at autopsy that made it plain she did not have the physical capacity to kill herself as she had been killed. (She was found handed to death and had a shoulder injury that made it impossible that she could have accomplished this, physically.)

The Museum's trustees, local PTB types, were then interviewed and admitted they forced the Director's resignation because they felt they could no longer "control the story". They admitted they had been lying to the press about the Director's misconduct at work and outside work towards this young woman, but did not express regret over her death or call for an investigation into the possibility the Director murdered her. She was an "inconvenient women", plainly to be forgotten as soon as possible.

On 2012, a local Cleveland area strip club was discovered to have been hiring underaged girls as nude dancers when a complaint of theft among the club's dancers was investigated by the police. As far as I know, the club's owners have never been arrested for sex abuse of a child. Nor have the police (or the liquor board, etc.) made any effort to discover if this is a pattern among these particular owners or strip clubs operators in the area, generally.

In 2013, the officials of a local suburban city here were arrested for running a prostituion ring which was situated on city property. The degradation of the sex workers and their children is truly chilling....walking past a shrieking, hungry baby to fuck her heroin-laden, comatose mother. Etc.

In 2014, the Plain Dealer put up an article on its website, inviting commentators to suggest names for the unborn baby daughter of LeBron James and his wife. The immediate flood of disgusting racist, sexist screed that followed was 100% predictable. The person at the Plain Dealer responsible for this decision has never been disciplined, as far as I know, nor has he ever apologized to Mrs. James (Savannah Brimson) and her husband.

In 2014, Cleveland Scene published a lengthy interview with an area woman explaining the interrelatedness of prostitution, marijuana, murder and the reaction of local police. Underscoring yet again that to the police here, some homicides are unsolved primarily because they view the victims as worthless.

Her accounts of the relationship between her brothel's sex workers and the local police are chilling. IMO, no cop can ever have a truly consensual sexual relationship with a sex worker or with anyone else he has the power and probable cause to arrest.

In 2015, the Cleveland Scene reported on an alleged pattern of rapes committed by Put-In-Bay officers on the job, which are apparently enabled and covered up by their police chief.

Police Chief, Self-Proclaimed "God of Put-in-Bay," Accused of Covering Up Police Rapes | Scene and Heard: Scene's News Blog

Put-In-Bay is an island town in Lake Erie and a popular tourist attraction, so the victims were all from out-of-town and most were impaired by drugs and alcohol. Apparently, raping a few young female tourists every summer is just another "perk of the job" on this police force.

Sexual harassment is typically found at the job, between coworkers. It can also be found at the job, between workers and customers (such as the police and civilians). It should be viewed with the same derision and contempt as domestic violence.

These woman had no choice but to interact with their abusers and it led to various harms, including several murders.

Sexism is a fact of life for every American female, from birth to death. Rape and sexual assault and sexually motivated homicides are almost exclusively committed by men against women, and invariably express a rage and unbridled hatred for THAT woman and almost invariably, for women in general. This includes the plague of sadistic torture murders of trans women by men they do not know.

I realize that men cannot intuit the depth of the fear/awareness every American female learns to maintain at all times while out in public, anymore than men cannot intuit what pregnancy and childbirth are like. But the disregard some here show to reports of sexual harassment by ANYONE, but especially by powerful male politicians, is somewhat upsetting.

It denies the fact that the term "sexual harassment" refers to acts in which a man (and occasionally, another woman) to acts illegally to blights a female's life by ruining her career, destroying her family or even killing her.

This is not to say there are no false or just plain goofy claims of sexual harassment. But there also are false claims of any crime, including domenstic violence, and I think we are all evolved enough to notice that and continue to treat that class of crimes as serious. There are false or goofy claims of racist injuries, yet people of good will can absorb this while still noticing that racist injuries in America are frequently deadly.

If you have seen "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo", the scenes in which she is raped by her social worker are a type of sexual harassment. Neighbors can be harassed; the crime is present in any nonconsensual, on-going relationship outside the victim's own home.

    NSFW:

All three films, in Norweigan with English subtitles, explore sexual harassment and sexism, and the most delicious female revenge imaginable. They are brilliant, as are the novels they are based on, and the author was a man. It is not just some unicorn of human sensitivity who is both male and objects to the injustices women and girls too often suffer as sexist injuries. This level of awareness of crime and violence against women should be commonplace among ALL decent people.

    Stieg Larsson - IMDb

Women can sexually harass both other women and men. If you have seen "Gone Girl" or read the book, that is one evil bitch and she nearly puts her husband on death row.

    Gone Girl (2014) - IMDb

Too many decent men hear "sexual harassment" and think of times their innocent language was a source of anxiety at work in case a female colleague objected or mischaracterized a remark they had made. And this does happen.

There is almost no evil act a human without a penis cannot commit.

    Deadly Women | Investigation Discovery

Adjust your reality viewfinders, gentlemen. We females need the support of every justice-loving American to respond adequately to sexist injustices, and we should be able to count on your support.

We are your mothers, wives, sisters and daughters.

#1. I think it will go on, until the end of time. (OR, at least, until the women's take over, form a utopian society in the cities, and ban all males to the wastes, except for when they get herded up, the best looking ones taken out and cleaned up, for "mating" rituals......DAMNIT, why am I always picked last????)

#2. It has been reduced, or, at least, forced into the shadows, with better public acknowledgement of the issue.

#3. Although....there is still a lot in this that could use some clarification. I mean, it's like the old SNL comedy skit with Tom Brady. He goes and hits on the women in the office, even grabbing their breasts, and they are all like "ahhhhhhh...." Then, one little ugly dude asks one out for coffee....and she starts calling the boss to report him for harrassment.......All joking aside, I would argue that we need far better consistency, in regards to what is, or what is not, "sexual harrassment."

#4. Much like RACISM, many of the issues and problems from sexual harrasment are not so much "Boss/Employee" these days, but, "Employee/Employee." That has to stop, as well. (I have seen both racism and sexual harassment between equal employees, on several occassions...)

#5. I would date a "feminist." IF she were nice, we got along, and there was chemistry between us. In fact, I did date, an uber-liberal 'feminist,' who was very feminine (Although with the spirit of a Tomboy!) Although, she never really CALLED herself "feminist."

#6. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, is a good movie. (I wish they would continue the story, with the English-speaking versions. I am probably going to have to break down and rent/purchase the original movies, with subtitles.) OR, read the books, of course......She is a BAD ASS Hero!

#7. Again, though....I feel that perhaps, we are not ALL on the same page, when it comes to the actual definition of "feminisim" and "sexual harrassment." Those are WORDS, that can mean a wide range of definition, according to a wide range of personal opinion. In fact, sometimes, people go so far as to alter said defintion, entirely dependent on WHO is involved.

    Yes!
I loved the tweet where the person using poor grammar won't date a feminist. A feminist is a person who believes in equal rights for women. Anyone who says he will not vote for a feminist is saying he doesn't believe in equal rights for women .

Comment that a woman has a nice ass and some liberal hears it you will get sued for harassment.

This is the world they are creating. You can't comment on anything.

How would you feel if some guy looked at you and said that you had a great ass. Would it be OK if he comments on your Penis? After all the guy is just saying something nice

There still is a bit of a double standard in some areas. For instance, we have a couple female workers that pinch the butts of the guys when they see them. Of course the guys love it and flirt but what would happen if the guys walked in and pinched the butts of the females?

Yes it's a real thing. The problem is getting people to agree on what defines SH. To an extent it's subjective.

    I was looking for Amen!

    But I will accept yes.

I am 63 years old and white and middle class, and the last time I felt sexually harassed was this WEEK. I expect this will never change but lke all injustices, the law cannot address every injury. I had this very intense man try to chat me up on line st the grocery. When I did not respond, he went from "charming fellow" to "angry asshole". At 3 pm on a Tuesday! To an old lady!

This would not have inspired fear in me unless he tried to follow me into the parking lot.

Even then, the law dies not and can not criminalize male behavior that usually inspires fear in reasonable women.

Women and girls have a very different way to move through the world than most men experience.

When I waited tables, I worked with a dude who told a cute, and incredibly sweet waitress:

"You have nice breasts, I would like to suckle them."

The Manager fired him at the end of his shift........
