You claim to be trans in order to use the women's restroom.

Are you not just as guilty of this behavior as that whihc you accuse prisoners aspiring to?

That being said, is this just not hysterics spawned out of bigotry and hatred?

Process to change name and gender marker on personal ID's (it varies from state to state, and some are much more difficult than others, but this is how it was in California in 2012):

    1. Psych visits. Lots of them. Get a letter stating that you are being treated for gender dysphoria.
1a. Some locales require living as target gender for a year before moving on to step 2.

    2. Go to doctor to get hormones. It will most likely take several appointments, even with a letter from your psych, and likely at your own expense. Your doctor is probably going to know nothing about it, so you're either going to have to educate them yourself, or get referred to an endocrinologist. Come prepared with scientific literature and prove that you are giving well-informed consent to expedite this process. Get an affadavit from your doctor that you are being medically treated for gender dysphoria.

    3. Pay the fees upfront and get a court date.
3a. Some locales require you to post your intentions in the public notices section of your local newspaper well in advance of your court date. I did. You'll be surprised how many of your friends and neighbors read them. Fun times.

    4. Show up on your court date and testify in front of the judge and everyone else who might be in the courtroom that day what you're doing and why. It's a very good idea to be dressed and presenting as your target gender to your utmost abilities on this day. Hopefully you didn't get a bigoted judge, and your request was granted.

    5. Go to SS office and get a new SS card issued with your name/gender change court order.

    6. Go to DMV and get a new license with your court orders.

    7. Hang on to those court orders for years afterwards, because there's 100 different places you have to change your information at that you haven't thought of yet.

    8. You're still going to psych visits, of course. You're going to need a lot more of those if you intend to pursue your medical transition beyond that.

Of course, this only covers the very basics of the legal aspects of transition. Good luck with your kids, family, friends, career, and going out in public, because you're in for a hell of an education on that front.

So by all means, pretend to be trans to get in the restroom or women's prison or whatever. Just know ahead of time what you're in for, and be very committed to your role, because you're going to need that every ounce of commitment in your soul to get through it.

Good luck, and be sure to report back to us on your progress.

Anyone can file a suit, winning it is another matter entirely. *shrug*

So you weren't TG until you did all of those things?

Or you did them after you were TG?

My point is, even if you claim to be trans, the results are not immediate. There's a process. If you are in a men's prison and you want to claim to be trans so you can get transferred to a women's prison, you're going to get a court date like anyone else, and it's probably not going ti be tomorrow. Prison guards know when any inmate has a court date and why. They talk. Prisoners talk. You're still going to be housed in the men's prison until you can prove yourself to a judge.

You're still going to have to deal with the guards, who now know your intentions.

You're going to have to deal with your fellow prisoners, who now also know.

You're still going to have to go to the yard.

You're still going to have to take showers.

All I'm saying is, good luck with your ruse. I hope it works out for you.

So you spend a year jumping through hoops, doesn't mean much to a guy serving life does it?

Not like they have anything better to do and they get to be surrounded by women when they are done.

You couldn't handle the trauma and violence associated with claiming you are transgender even in everyday "free" society, let alone while being housed in a men's prison with guards and other prisoners threatening your life and
    physical safety every single day.

You know, unless you actually ARE trans, in which case you handle it because you must. The alternative is far worse.

So go for it, either inside prison or out. Publicly proclaim you are transgender, like I did and every other trans person has to do in order to actively transition and live your life as another gender than the one you were assigned at birth. No matter what ultimately happens as a result, you will be a much wiser person for it.

You think non TG people don't face trauma and violence on a daily basis in prison, they don't have their lives threatened?

Hell, its going to happen regardless so you might as well work towards getting out of it huh?

I mean if you are getting your ass kicked in prison for claiming to be TG they might just move you to the women that much quicker and its kid in the candy store time.

Throwing a transgendered person into a prison adds a new level of danger for that person, which one can easily see displayed through hatred and bigotry towards trans folks in this thread.

Certainly one should expect that while incarcerated, even precaution should be made to provide the inmate with the highest level of personal protection.
