I never praised only the women over the men either.

But, if you see my last post, we had kind of a unique situation, we had more than 90% women in that company.

(And frankly, many of my male co-workers weren't worth a damn, lol complimenting them just wouldn't enter into it.)

    Thx

We had one old guy I kind of felt sorry for and might have went out of my way to compliment where it wouldn't occur to others.

We had three old guys in the machine shop, the two "bosses" were just regular old guys, but the third one was the lowest of the three and often got the grunt work.

But, the thing about this guy... he smelled, and I mean really strong!

He wore the same clothes everyday, his work clothes and they were saturated with oil and oil is an organic molecule and given enough time will stink just like crap.

So, it was hard to be near him for any length of time.

But, I was just learning machining at the time (I was an electronics tech, but found myself sucked into machining more and more.)

And I'd go over to "Stinky John" and ask him questions and I could tell that it was important to him.

20 years there, hogging out 20 thousandths with a fly cutter, machines screaming in his face and pretty much the only conversation he had was when he was being told what to do or being chewed out for something.

At that company we had two men fired for sexual harassment...

One was the purchasing agent, real straight kind of guy you would think, I was very surprised to hear that!

    Thx

I never had any problems complimenting women. Hell, that was one of the reasons my wife married me, or so shes says, I "knew how to talk to a woman and make her feel good", apparently...

Of course, if you leer at a woman like a pervert, while grinning like a moron, while going "Nice rack, toots!" that's probably not gonna end well with any female who has any respect for herself...
I did not even read the post, the man. I knew what it would say.

Advice my Son was told by his Father when he was really full of himself.

You now have that piece of paper, get out on the floor with those old men who have been there for years, watch, listen, buy them a cup of coffee now and then. Will not cost you much, but you will learn.

Today he says that is the best advice he ever had because he depended on those men for machining. He was a Toolmaker, but as an Engineer was not allowed to do that.

The background you have prepared you. He may have smelled, but had a world of advice you needed.

My heroes have always been the meek.

Yes, they used to have the old "apprentice system" and for something like machining, getting hands-on training IS so important, and those old guys are the ones who know best.

One of the old guys, Bob let me watch over his shoulder and eventually I ended up doing the finest work there, the really critical parts.

And when Bob retired, I bought him a "20th Century" coin set, he was a collector.

And my co-tech there, BJ said "you gotta pay for your education, huh?"

    "Yep, that's right BJ..."

Bob also liked the old movies, we'd get to talking a lot there, then the really old guy, old Tom, he liked "Yes Minister" the show from my avvy and we'd shoot the breeze for 20 minutes or so.. owner standing there trying to get a word in edgewise...

Oh, let me tell you, I very much appreciated those guys, all three and I was maybe one of the two or three people who could get along with old Tom.

Him a cantankerous octogenarian and me a 20-something hippie.

    Thx

You do not have to tell me this, almost every woman I have ever dated had been raped -- including several who were raped by family members (even by their father). One told me that her dad's friends constantly hit on her, even when she was as young as 13. I'm not talking about actual sexual assault, rape, etc. I'm talking about women who are making bogus claims just to win custody of their children or punish men for having an affair. I'm not getting into that, it's a bunch of he-said she-said. (Sound familiar?)

We better be careful here too, you know?

We are losing those skills, some day we might end up buying our fighter jets from China!

    Thx

Now I'm retired; I complement women all the time. You want to watch a woman smile? Next time you go through a drive thru to get some coffee, tell the young girl that her hair looks nice on her. I sometimes complement women on a ring they may be wearing and say how my wife would love a ring that nice. It doesn't hurt to be nice to people when you can. Women can tell if you are being nice or being a jerk.
That is a strategy from my book. I tell teachers not to say you want the best pr you are the smartest. But I told him to focus on something like your imagery in writing is wonderful.
Ps I like your writing style :j

When I was a child, 7 or 8 I visited my Grandparents for 6 weeks in the summer. One Aunt and Uncle still there. I would go sit on the porch of an old Irish lady. I loved listening to her stories of the past. I loved older people. They had so much History to make it real.
