Sex Workers??? When did the name change...and why

Now don't get me wrong. I have absolutely nothing against prostitution. To me it's a profession that should be considered as being as respectable as any other. However, changing the name mystifies me. Is it a matter of making the profession more acceptable to society? Or is it a matter of making these people feel better...kind of like calling garbage men sanitation engineers?

Ah well...a rose is a rose, eh?

Interesting, I too wonder when this name change happened and for what reason. Not that it really matters I suppose. If prostitution were legal it would be a much safer profession, I too have nothing against it. I just wish it was legal so these girls could be protected more instead of being pushed underground where who knows what can happen.

Probably because one doesnt need to perform sex acts to be a prostitute.. example: lotsa politicians prostitute themselves to special interest lobbyists.

Isn't it part of the GOP platform to shift helping those less fortunate from government to charity?

As do most members of Congress.

The label "prostitute" carries a presumption of femininity as well as pejorative associations. A sex worker need not be female, and it is a morally neutral term.

Agreed hence the use of the term male prostitute at times as opposed to simply prostitute. .
