Putin should participate in this lol

He even has his own suit of armor, the history department of the Novosibirsk State University recreated the armor of a Siberian Turkic warrior for him, as a birthday gift, couple years ago

Perhaps the Chechen ruler, Ramzan Kadyrov could fight at his side

And Igor Girkin-Strelkov too, who was a Roman Centurion

before he ended up in Donbass, led a rebel militia, and then returned to Moscow and is now a political talk show personality there.

    And on the other side

    lmao

Sorry but those are not full contact re-enactments.

There is a league in Britain that uses actual weapons, the only rule is that the blades must be dulled. But an old friend of mine uses this massive 2 handed claymore out there and believe me, many, many people end up going to the hospital after the fight.

    Armor is also optional.

I will try and find the name of it out for you guys, if it still exists.

I've often wondered what an actual sword fight would look like.

That Swedish one, yeah, those are two guys trying some moves. But they're not trying to hurt each other.

Fights between armies were shield walls. You stood in a line of shields and hacked over and under them, standing in a pile of guts, until the sheer terror caused one side to run.

But what would a one on one, or two on three sword fight reallyblook like?

I think the Hollywood idea is unlikely.

I'd guess that the formal duel probably descended from it, but with different swords it was probably bloodier, nastier and hugely messier. It also belonged to an earlier world. The combats between 'Celtic' warriors sound to me more like individual boxing or wrestling matches, with the poets as sports' commentators.

I thought the OP was going to be about this:

The Battle of Leipzig or Battle of the Nations (Russian: Битва народов, Bitva narodov; German: Völkerschlacht bei Leipzig; French: Bataille des Nations) was fought from 16 to 19 October 1813, at Leipzig, Saxony. The coalition armies of Russia, Prussia, Austria, and Sweden, led by Tsar Alexander I of Russia and Karl Philipp, Prince of Schwarzenberg, decisively defeated the French army of Napoleon I, Emperor of the French. Napoleon's army also contained Polish and Italian troops, as well as Germans from the Confederation of the Rhine. The battle was the culmination of the 1813 German campaign and involved nearly 600,000 soldiers, making it the largest battle in Europe prior to World War I.

Compare that to Gettysburg, less than 200,000 total involved.

Depends if the combatants are armored of not.

If both unarmored it could be seconds to a few minutes (this fight from The Duelist seems to be a pretty accurate depiction)

The last judicial duel in france between two fully armored combatants took about 15 to 30 minutes according to eye witness accounts..https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trial_...combat_of_1386

Started off on horseback and took three tilts for the combatants to break their lances then both killed each other's horses with their axes.
The fight then went to swords with the larger Le Gris gaining the upper hand and stabbing Carrouges in the leg. Carrouges then charged Le Gris and wrestled him to the ground and gained the advantage. Carrouges tried to find gaps or weak points in Le Gris's armour but only succeeded in denting it. Carrouges then used the hilt of his dagger to break open the lock of the visor to expose the face of Le Gris and demanded he admit defeat, when Le Gris refused to do so Carrouges stabbed him through the neck dead.

If its an armored combatant vs unarmored, then I suggest the unarmored guy should just run away

Yeah they are only semi-realistic but still its the closest to the real thing out there.

You can tell many of the guys are hitting full bore like they would in a real fight.
