    You can heat water with fuel oil or a nuclear reactor. In the case of the Ford they are using electricity to power most everything else including the catapults.

    Absolutely, not doubt about it. On the other hand I can't help but think these carriers represent really massive, expensive, targets. The Chinese have, reportedly, been making headway in offensive missile capability these days.
