    They haven't used coal since before ww2. In my day my aircraft carrier used oil. Much of the us fleet is nuclear these days.

    They didn't. However the Ford class A1B reactors are smaller and produces 600mw instead of the Nimitz class' 200mw of electricity. The Ford class also got rid of the need to generate and store extra steam for the other systems such as the catapult.

    What exactly had Gerald Ford accomplished as President to name such a grand ship for him???

    He wasn't even elected, took over after Nixon was impeached for being a crook, and then pardoned the asshole so he wouldn't go to jail...

    That is now worthy of putting your name on a warship? Wtf...

    I could think of a dozen more worthy American Presidents...
