A case that we actually "won" the Vietnam War...if decades later-

The stated purpose for the war was to "keep Southeast Asia from turning Communist" or more hilariously (given we supported South Vietnamese dictators and juntas) "freedom for the Vietnamese people."

The REAL purpose of the war was to keep South Vietnam as part of our little hegemony of 3rd World banana republics who would supply American business interests with resources or even labor.

Well....it seems today as if, we SUCCEEDED in that.

Along with China, Vietnam is now doing business with Western corporations, providing cheap labor and cheap products.

We never really cared if the Government was a democracy, or even oppressive.....so labels like "capitalist" or "Communist" are meaningless.

We (well, Western corporations) are MAKING MONEY off Vietnam.

So in a very real way.....doesn't that mean we "won" the Vietnam War???

304,000 might disagree, and another 58,000 no longer have a voice with which to do so.

It was whoever decided to keep it a limited war that caused the loss. If you had been willing to devastate the country the way you did Germany and Japan, you might have won -

    or traded nukes with China.

Germany and Japan were only devastated because they didn't want to give up the war and didn't seem to care how many of their people died, much like VN.

I've heard the same argument applied to Germany and Japan owing to their hegemony in certain markets.

The United States neither won or lost the Vietnam War, although the United States won every single combat action. South Vietnam lost the Vietnam War.

    Cheers,
