If you missed by two or three then you shot around 218 or so. In a gusty wind I'd say that's some mighty fine shooting. Like I said I only shot 209 in the wind. It doesn't matter so much that it should bother you. You answered the call when many other's didn't. That's what is important. And, that toilet seat you describe would be an Experts badge in the Army or any other branch. I have a buddy who shot 240 something and I'd stack my shooting against his anyday because conditions mean everything and unlike my friend, I had never even fired a BB gun before the Marine Corps. He, on the other hand had been an avid hunter and had a gun collection and lessons from his dad for many years. If you won't, I'll be proud for ya. LOL We truly are the Few.

I had the opposite problem, shot well on practice day but on Q-day the wind picked up and threw me off. I still remember that I missed the Sharpshooters badge by either 2 or 3 points and ended up with that ugly-ass, "toilet seat"Marksman badge.
Fifty fucking years and that STILL pisses me off. Fucking southern California wind.

I have a 1911 sitting on my desk next to me as I type. Best pistol in the world.

Now you can get 1911's in 9mm. Affordable to shoot and a couple extra rounds per mag.

After carrying the M16 or one of its cousins across the globe for more than half a century, soldiers could get a peek at a new prototype assault rifle that fires a larger round by 2020.

Army researchers are testing half a dozen ammunition variants in “intermediate calibers,” which falls between the current 7.62 mm and 5.56 mm rounds, to create a new light machine gun and inform the next-generation individual assault rifle/round combo.

The weapon designs being tested will be “unconventional,” officials said, and likely not one that is currently commercially available.

    I'd say it's about time.

That would be sweet, I like 9mm also. For self defense, give me a 45 ACP though, any day.

Although interesting this talk of pistols is Greek to me. The only handgun I fired was the military Colt 45 and I think I even missed the sky the first few shots.

When I got my CCL in Missouri I had a Ruger P-frame 9mm pistol with the extended mag, held 17 rounds as i recall. But in Missouri you are required to keep your pistol concealed and lugging that bif pistol around was a pain in the ass.
I got rid of it and got a .380 semi-automatic. MUCH easier to conceal and carry. I do load it with 90 grain Hydra-Shok rounds.
I believe that if you put the bullet in the right place the caliber does not much matter.

No shit, we were firing at a man sized silhouette at 25 feet and I didn't scratch it with a full magazine.

edit: But that was better than my rocket launcher familiarization firing, how do you miss a field full of tank and APC hulks completely?

Two accurately placed 9's beat one .45 Multiple hits create more body trauma.
