    Well......over time the USN likely retires another Nimitz Class. However....I think it makes sense to maintain/modernize rather than scrap.

    We DO have some "small Carriers". Those may be to support USMC missions. You'd maybe have some VTOL F-35's, some Ospreys,Helicopters.

    With the FULL SIZE Carriers...figure a couple are in port and the others cover a LOT of space. Our navy operates in EVERY ocean at a significant scale.

    THere has been a lot of discussion in the navy world as to carrier size. Should we also have small and midsize carriers. Lots of pro & cons concerning mission capability versus costs.
    Why not a high / low mix? Ship size to suit mission.
