Yes but not because of any military prowess, only because he was in charge and could change the rules.

They overthrew Napoleon's forces there....he then sent his most elite soldiers to quell them, and they were dispersed, and he said fuck it...he's done with the western hemisphere.

Prior to that he had plans to invade America, Haiti was going to be his jumping off point.

No doubt those both contributed greatly to defeating Napy, but according to the emperor himself it was Sid. Neat story in the OP youtube, so be sure to watch it if you havent yet.

Yup.. and it was at Acre (now northern Israel) where Sid helped organized the defense that Napoleon's MiddleEastern tour was stopped.

    By demonstrating military prowess.

What ever someone's thoughts are on Napoleon - it's not fair to discount his ability as a military commander. He routed many an army.

A man's reach should exceed his grasp, or what's a Russian winter for?
    Thanks from Jeremy

I thought that was because of the British Empire and all their former colonies?

Huge, majestic reenactments are held every damn year, involving thousands of men

All at great expense, and God knows what the point is of commemorating a battle that Russia, btw, basically LOST, with Napoleon indeed capturing Moscow in the end (or, what was left of it, after Kutuzov had most of the city burned down before they retreated, something for which he is hailed as a great hero to this day lol)

In the '70's, a film was made entitled 'Waterloo'. For the filming the re-enactment was conducted by the Russian army. It was a massive production but it worked and was quite effective.

Indeed. Austerlitz and Marengo were moments of genius. It took a federation of nations to defeat his armies in the Spanish Peninsula, however, like Hitler, he underestimated the Russian people, geography and climate.

The Brits drive on the left. So did everyone before Napoleon. I'm not sure how we got into that habit in North America, but on the left is, I believe, from the ancient custom of meeting opposite side travelers right-side to right-side because that's where most people carry their weapon.
