We probably could draw down a bit. But we should be aware that if we do so, we lose some leverage when we negotiate with other countries. But I'm not an economist, so we need to look at the numbers and do what makes sense... and also, should we do so, we need a nice managed draw down, because so many other industries work with the government and military, so we need everyone to be able to manage the draw down to not cause other problems.

    This is your state:

    Camp Humphreys
    U.S. Navy Hospital Beaufort
    Fort Devens Army Garrison
    Blue Grass Army Depot
    Pohakuloa Training Area

Now add the 49 states, all US territories and possessions, and NATO allies. That is a whole lot of money to keep those installations supplied.

We, the US is never NOT going to fund the military, some dick-head politicians use the lie that others don't want to fund the Military as a weapon.

There are parts of the Military that needs more funding...like benefits and programs for vets and some that are totally out of control like the F-35 programs.

We just don't have enough sessions of Congress where Congressmen have the balls or ovaries to do the cutting needed.
You sure that's ALL that is there?

    Camp Humphreys isn't really there.

So, it's not as bad as some people think...

We absolutely need bases in Germany to protect us from North Korean missiles.

Because National Defense is important. We have soldiers on welfare.. Thanks to the previous 3 administrations.

The Federal Government should be more invested in NAtional Defense and turn SS, Welfare and Healthcare over to the states.

Get out of Korea would be the first thing to do. And we're still in Japan too, WWII is over. Yeah I know, forward bases blah blah blah.

Yes Isolationism worked so well in 1918 and 1941.

I really do agree that the US doesn't need physical presence anywhere anymore outside of the USA territory. Wars are not fought with hand to hand combat any more. Missle launches can be done from the sea to most places on earth or by air to their destination within hours of a US terrority. I think all the bases can be closed and the soldiers brought home. I don't see why the soldiers can't work on improving US infrastructure and man emergency disaster posts in every State in the union.

Maybe but what's the opposite of isolation? Whatever it is we're doing it. Besides we have all those rapid deployment machines, like carriers, long distance bombers, etc.

I think with modern technology we probably don't need as many forward bases. Also, we can probably sell some bases to the host countries and then leave with an agreement to be able to stage there on a temp basis, under certain circumstances. Could be best of both worlds.
