How to power up an AK

A separatist fighter in Donbass, in East Ukraine, shows a Russian war correspondent a way their engineers apparently invented, to make a regular AK fire a big explosive round from a ZU-23 anti-aircraft gun, like one used by these Russian troops

The way this works, is, apparently, he loads a blank AK bullet with extra gunpowder into the rifle; and loads the ZU-23 round into that added tube on top of the barrel. The blank round goes off and, with all it's powder, shoots the big ZU round from the barrel. They let the journalist himself test the rifle afterwards too, in the video.

If you ask me, this looks like a stupid and pointless invention, for AK. Now, if they put this onto a sniper rifle, which they probably will, which would then combine the accuracy of the sniper rifle with the armour piercing power of the ZU round, that would make a heck of a weapon.

But, on an AK, in a battle scenario where the whole purpose of such an automatic assault rifle is RAPID fire, you waste too much time with all this loading and shit. Whatever advantage the extra power of the round may give you is negated by all the time you have to spend loading each damn round and whatnot, almost like those muskets in the old days.

Besides, the seps have plenty of actual, working ZU-23s

The point of trying to shoot their rounds from an AK eludes me...

I guess the explosive round could be used to some advantage since it acts sort of like a poor M79, but hey! Is that a confederate flag on that guy's arm?

Sorry Novorossiya, it's a conditioned response.
