Such a device could follow a victim just about anywhere, there would be no escaping it and no way to detect it in time to avoid it.
Yeah, the drone in the pic is a MQ-1 Predator and it's a bad mo-fo, to put it into technical words.

When they launch it, I would think they sometimes have one target in mind, but sometimes want to just have a platform overhead that can blow stuff up real good, and that would be whatever target presents itself.

That would be the thinking when we have ground troops operating in the area, just be ready to cover their arse.

The MQ-1 is designed to carry two Hellfire Missiles and go over 700 miles away and cover a target for a long time, and if something threatens our guys on the ground, two Hellfire missiles could be a difference maker.

Smaller drones can do other things, of course.

Different weapons systems for different missions.

A year or two ago I saw a youtube video of an off-the-shelf drone that somebody had rigged to carry a 9MM pistol, and it was blasting away at some target.

We will see more of this kind of thing in the future.

No doubt we will, and autonomous drones will raise the stakes even further.

Agree, and drones are like other things such as the internet in this respect:

They are already being used for lots of good things and some not so good things.

And they are still in the fairly early portion of their growth stage.

Their future is exciting and terrifying.
