A Salute to my Marine Brothers on Memorial Day.

I haven't forgotten you guys. A salute to Eddie Gruczinski, Rob Ryan, Jim Shipman and Herbie Heintz. I miss you and I love you all. We were kids who fought like men and our thoughts were not for ourselves but for each other.

In the Marine Corps infantry we have a saying,
"Let No Man's Ghost Say I Failed To Do My Job." I did my job and you all certainly did yours. I remember my fallen brothers on this Memorial Day and the next and every day in between. Fox Company 2nd Battalion 7th Regiment 1st Marine Division. Ready for anything and counting on nothing.

OOH RAH! And Carry On Marines.

I'll have to call my dad today, he's a Marine (we're not allowed to say anything indicating past-tense, and everybody knows why.)

A day to remember all those who died in the armed forces while serving their country.

    In all services.

    Thanks to all.

You got that right. Once a Marine, Always a Marine. Tell dad I said Semper Fidelis to him. What unit was he with? Oops, I mean what unit IS he with. LOL

This brought tears to my eyes. It's beautiful and incredibly sad at the same time.

Visitors to the National Mall on Memorial Day weekend will encounter a wall of bright red poppies, installed to commemorate the men and women who have died in uniform in the century since World War I.

Retired Navy Vice Adm. John Bird tells NPR the project uses 645,000 synthetic flowers one for each American killed in an international conflict since the start of World War I pressed against acrylic panels, which are backlit for dramatic effect.

Sometimes I think I don't like this holiday very much. The reason behind it is grim and all the cookouts and parades do little to change the reality.

I will ask him, and he will be happy to answer for two, maybe three days tops. All I know is he was stationed at Camp Pendleton, and they were all packed and ready to head out because of the Cuban Missile Crisis.

I hear ya. We have a mini Vietnam Wall in my town. It's been here since about 2010 or so. I've yet to visit there. I don't think it would provide anything but anger and sadness.

Govts love their monuments and ignore their Veterans needs. We also had a Vet Center one town over that closed for lack of funding. So much for ceremony. Sorry, today is anything but a prideful time for me.

I've seen the cutbacks at VA for 50 years. They can stick their walls where the sun don't shine.

Reminds me of the bullshit "thoughts and prayers" they spew for victims of gun violence. They can stow that shit in the same place.

Not necessary. He was in a long time before me. Time periods and age are hard to gauge on forums. I thought he was maybe my age and fought in Nam.
    Thanks from BDBoop
