To know the past is to know the future

First day of high school, my teacher kept repeating the same words: History repeats itself. I laughed it off at first, but that was the year I became active in the news and politics. And there I realized everything going on in our current world has gone on before. Germany and Japan built up their nations in post-WWI. We imposed (or I should say tryed to impose) santions and received WWII. Iran and Korea are building rockets and nuclear weapons. We are currently, and unsuccessfully attempting to bargain with them. Will we see WWIII?

Post-WWI, Russia went from a weak nation to a powerful one in a matter of years with communism. Then came the Cold War. Post-WWII, China went from the bullied to the bully. Will they assert hegemony over their neighbors just as Russia did, and ultimately threaten the U.S. as well?

I can think of more, but I'll leave them to your imagination. Just keep up on your history: you may just learn the future.

    Yes.

History has a tendency to repeat itself.

There are certain people who NEED to learn this.

For China to threaten USA they will have to get smarter than USA. How will that happen? USA would have to implode from within and destroy itself. As long as USA keeps ahead on technology, USA will rule.

Asia is very competetive with the rest of the world in terms of high technology at the moment. Look at Japan - Akihabara is possibly the most technologically advanced population centre in the entire world. Most electronics are produced in Asia nowdays.

Simply put, China and India, the two major competitors, have a growing population which is already large and a lot of educated people. Their economies are becoming huge - China will definitely surpass the US very soon.

No - Germany and Japan were in a far better position than Iran and NK Japan and Germany recovered from the depression faster than any of the western nations (primarily due to their pre war buildup).

Iran and NK are behind the times as it were even if they were to combine their forces I doubt they could win a war against France.

If China were to threaten U.S interests the perfect time would be now - the U.S is engaged in two wars which have diverted much of it's resources and time and America is more politically divided than it has been in a good long while.

History does repeat itself and as long as we don't learn from our mistakes, it will all happen again.
    Like the song says...

La historia se repite (history repeats itself)
los esclavos contra los amos (slaves against masters)
    la historia se repite
los vasallos contra los seņores (serfs against lords)
    la historia se repite
los obreros contra los patrones (workers against employers)
    la historia se repite
pueblos contra imperios...y no va a terminar (towns against empires... and it won't end)

Why does this Zaragrunudgeyon guy have a red thing? The point he's making is one of the best I've seen today. What's the point of ruling the world if there is no more world to rule. We'll be so concerned with outdoing the other nations that we might just run out of the rescources we need to live in peace.
