    Adolf Hitler: Evil or Insane?

You cant have it both ways. Either he was cruel because he was a nutjob and couldnt help himself or he was mean and was able to control himself but chose not to and therefore was evil. What say you? I think he was evil.

You can't be both? Why not? I always though that becoming evil was the most logical next step after going insane. :dunno:

But ok for the sake of this thread I'll go with evil!

He was simply a politician. That's it. A politician who loved his country very much... and then, rather unfortunately, forgot his limits, as a human being. I kinda like that man. How easily we forget that he was from a totally broken family (close to an orphan) limited education and was a mere private in the Army in the war... he had conscripted in it as well.

It's a pity his mistakes will forever overshadow his better aspects as a leader and a powerful speaker. A leader who acts like the perfect role model has been a rarity in the second half of the century.

If your insane, then you cant control what you are doing and dont know any better. Evil is the exact opposite of that.

I can understand respecting his charisma, his strong will, his leadership skills or whatever... but liking the man... can't.

    What's your definition of evil?
I'm sure in his little world he was a good guy, convinced to be doing the best for his country and his people.
Had Germany won the war, we'd be calling him "good" and the US and allies "evil". Good and evil don't really mean anything.

Evil I beleive is the perpetrating of actions that go against one's conscience.

I dont have allot of time to give a better definition, maybe when I get home?

Sorry? I think that it is worrying that you 'kindA like that man'. A politician? So now that is to say that all politicians are lying, cruel and insane? He loved his country? How can this be so if he didn't love the people in his country? The Jews in Germany were German people, and as far as i know he wasn't too keen on them. And an excuse that he was from a totally broken family? Right, so that makes us say 'poor guy, he was from a broken family, i can see why he killed 6,000,000 people'. ???? And then you go on to suggest that Hitler was a leader who acted like a perfect role model. A perfect role model? Please tell me you are kidding.

With regards to the question, i do believe that he was both. For example, in order to be able to murder one person, let alone 6 million, you have to be a little insane. But he knew exactly what he was doing, he knew the pain it was causing people but he continued. That to me is also evil. Most killers that go back in history are evil because they set out to kill people. Also insane, because anyone who gets pleasure out of that kind of thing is in my opinion mentally ill.

If Germany had won the war, most of us wouldn't be here.

I had heard that Hitler had syphillis and the disease attacks the brain eventually and impairs judgement. I heard this as a young child. Eva musta been a skank ho...

    Hitler syphilis theory revived

A fresh attempt to suggest that Hitler's behaviour might partly be influenced by advanced syphilis has been made by a US historian.
The rumour that the Nazi leader might have contracted the sexual disease has surfaced before - along with a multitude of conflicting and occasionally outlandish theories about his health.
