    Had heard of:

    Tiso
    Choibalsan
    Hoxha
    Smith
    Barre

I think I should get full credit for having heard of Rafael Trujillo,
father of Ramfis, since the elder was in power for over 30 years,
and the younger was a political cipher who did not even last out
the year (1961) he succeeded his father before being forced into exile.

These are the ones known to me:

    1. Jožef Tiso
    2. Ante Pavelić
    3. Rákosi Mátyás
    4. Enver Hoxha
    5. Ian Smith
    6. Siad Barre
    7. Radovan Karadžić (sentenced in Hague a couple of days ago to something like 40 years in prison)

Although Karadžić doesn't really qualify as a dictator. There were a number of powerful figures in his regime in Republika Srpska including Momčilo Krajišnik and Ratko Mladić who often openly disagreed with him and refused to act according to his decisions.
