    Philistine cemetery in Ashkelon

Ancient philistine cemetery in Israel could solve one of the Bible?s biggest mysteries

Archaeologists appear to have found a cemetery belonging to the Philistines for the first time ever, along with the remains of 200 people who were buried there. And together they might help shed light on one the Bible’s most mysterious people.

The scientists have said that the members of the Biblical nation didn’t appear to be “philistines” – finding the people buried alongside jewellery and perfumed oil. They will now conduct further tests that could shed yet more light on the maligned people.

Those discoveries might be enough to make us rethink today’s use of the word philistine, which tends to refer to uncultured people who don’t know enough about the arts.

"The Philistines have had some bad press, and this will dispel a lot of myths," said Lawrence Stager, an architect who has led the expedition that found the cemetery since 1985.

A tribe of the "sea people" that settled along the Southern Mediterranean coast in the late Bronze Age. There are two schools of thoughts on their origins, Eastern Med(Greece and the Aegean Islands), and Western Med (Sicily and Sardinia).

Maybe this cemetery will give them enough info to settle the dispute.

That's an interesting find, but I don't really expect any evidence found there to directly relate to a Biblical story. Biblical stories are Myths.

Maybe that is why there are no references in any Egyptian records of an Exodus, 10 plagues, or deaths of the first born. Not to mention no records of the Red Sea parting and an army drowning. And the Great Pyramids were being constructed during the supposed time of the Great Flood, and no mention of that flood in Egyptian records either.

Yes, yes, of course; but at SOME point, the Bible starts referring to places and events that are clearly historical. There WAS a Kingdom of Israel ruled by David and Solomon, and the Israelites WERE fighting the Philistines for some of that period. The trick is where to draw the line; and it appears that the right place to draw it is right about AT the time of David.....

I was under the impression that there was a THIRD school of thought, that the Sea Peoples were barbarians who had been living on the NORTHERN shores of the Black Sea.....and were naturally attracted by the great wealth of the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean....

I think you are right, I am not sure which theory currently holds the ascendance. The truth is, they don't fucking know.
