    Goodwin's "No Ordinary Time"

I am starting a read of this Pulitzer prize winning history of the war years and the role of the Roosevelt's in trying to manage the home front and their own lives.

I actually got interested in this through the Ken Burn's film on the Roosevelts.

Being a moderate conservative leaning voter, I am a bit reluctant, but since I have done no serious reading on FDR, it seemed a good place to go for my next historical junket.

I also think I have a soft spot for Goodwin, whose clips in Burn's Baseball connected to my own Red Sox traditions.

If anyone else has read on this subject, please share thoughts and references to other works.

The PBS series was FANTASTIC. I read a book many years back, I think it was simply called The Roosevelts, 'late 80's, early 90's, not sure when. Fascinating family. Pretty much petered out after Teddy, Franklin and Eleanor though. Absolutely unabashedly love Doris Kearns Goodwin. She came to a local college a few years back and gave a lecture on Team of Rivals after it was written but before the movie LINCOLN. If you are any sort of a history buff, she will have you glued to your seat (and this was in a sports venue with risers with no backs). She is a 'national treasure' and I don't use that term very damn often.
