Independence Day, also referred to as the Fourth of July or July Fourth, is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.
There is no national observance of GW on July 4. There is no connection of GW to that date other than he was alive...

Ban them all. If there is any fun or enjoyment involved...dump it. We could replace them with National Outrage Day or National Dickhead Day. National Dickhead Day could be fun in a evil sort of way. One day a year, you can be as rude, insulting, demeaning, as you want without consequence. With violence happening as it is, maybe we could consider The Purge. Not sure if you have seen those movies.

George Washington was the commander of what would become the Continental Army in New York. He and his army were waiting for the outcome of the Continental Congress' decision. That's "kinda'" important.

The Knights of Columbus dont even have a spaghetti dinner anymore. ...or if they do, its not a big event like years ago
Maybe where you live...Columbus Day was celebrated by a lot of people in Cleveland's Little Italy.

......and in charge of the Continental Army. You know that entity tasked with making the Declaration of Independence a fact and not just a statement.
