Russian lawmaker: "We would use nukes over Crimea"

BRATISLAVA, Slovakia — Russia would be forced to use nuclear weapons in any conflict in which U.S. or NATO forces entered eastern Ukraine, a member of Russia’s parliament told an international gathering of government security officials on Sunday.

“On the issue of NATO expansion on our borders, at some point I heard from the Russian military — and I think they are right — If U.S. forces, NATO forces, are, were, in the Crimea, in eastern Ukraine, Russia is undefendable militarily in case of conflict without using nuclear weapons in the early stage of the conflict,” Russian parliamentarian Vyacheslav Alekseyevich Nikonov told attendees at the GLOBSEC 2017 forum in Bratislava, Slovakia.

Russian military leaders have discussed Moscow’s willingness to use nuclear weapons in a conflict with military leaders in NATO, as part of broader and increasingly contentious conversations about the alliance’s expansion, Nikonov later told Defense One.

    God, Nikpnov is a douche...

He happens to be the grandson of another Vyacheslav, Molotov, Stalin's Foreign Minister, you know?

So proud of it, even wrote a book about the guy

Molotov didn't brag and exaggerate and embellish so much in his own fucking memoirs... lol

Well, I get being proud of one's heritage. That's cool.

But, Nikonov seems to think being Molotov's grandkid gives him the qualifications and authority to comment on foreign policy now, today, even babble about nukes! And, worse, Putin seems to be content to ALLOW him to continue to think that, and to run his mouth, like this...

Does he not realize this is fucking dangerous???

Russia isn't going to use nukes.

However, if the liberals are successful in cutting our defense spending to pay for welfare they just might.

Honestly, if the US attempted a military intervention in Crimea, they just might... Over Syria, no. Even Donbass, I'm not sure. But Crimea they consider own soil now. And Putin's current military doctrine calls for preemptive nuke strikes against any enemy government who attacks Russian soil. I'm perfectly fucking serious about that...

Which doesn't mean that stupid asshole, Nikonov, should be flapping his damn gums about it like that.

So we're not at the point where they consider the whole USSR to be their own soil? Just Crimea?

    Let's hope...

No, I don't think Putin has such grand ambitions. At least, yet. I think he is, at the very least, smart enough to understand Russia's military and economic capability limits, in that regard... I hope so, anyway.

Well they would be within their right.

We would use them if Russia attacked Florida.
