From what I understand, Iran has a top notch educational system...or used to. My neighbor is from Iran and attended medical school in Ohio. He is a radiologist. This, combined with the travel ban...we are shooting ourselves in the foot for talent.

The Western way of democracy and all is great, and is working fine, for us here. Not all societies are developed far enough for it yet though.

And please, unless you personally know anyone actually in Iran, don't just repeat that media crap about "brutal theocracy". Media tends to exaggerate and sensationalize. Especially about a country the US establishment sees as an enemy.

Propaganda doesn't just come from "Russia Today" and such.
You know me better than that. I don't fall for propaganda. I know you favor Iran over Sunni countries, but that isn't the discussion we are having.

one of the way to recognize a psychopath is the way the will filter and manipulate information and to isolate their victims.

There is a paranoia there that dates back to 1953; they aren't backwards, without their math and science discoveries, we wouldn't have western civilization; the span bridge is the design of sixth century Arabia, and the water wheel can be directly attributed to the Armenians, none of that came from what is historically known as Western Civilization.

I think the isolationist view is wrong, for us and for them, our higher education system is well prized and regarded by students from the Middle East, and as a function of that, they assimilate; I am waiting for the ban on foreign students in this country, that would cement the ideal of isolation, and that's not good.

Free education is a relative thing, the international language of business is English, until that changes, I see this as a losing proposition for Iran.

Sort of like, Amadinajah or as I like to call him Amadmaniniran, banishing the name "Danish" for pastries and renaming them Rose of the Prophet Muhammed, after some bad jokes about the Prophet.

    BUT! then again:

    We had "freedom fries"

So what? It's up to every individual country, what their kids learn at school.
It's just dumb and ideological rather than practical. English has been for over 100 years the language of commerce worldwide. It may not be forever, but it's so widespread in the developed world that it will be hard to dislodge. Excluding English from Iran is just isolating. They can't stop the proliferation of Western culture. A fool's errand.

I can't know the impact of banning Russian from Ukraine would have. How widespread and accepted as Russian as a common language for business and diplomacy in their region?

    Ah, maybe not,

    https://www.reuters.com/article/us-i...-idUSKBN1EW08K

But if Chinese is still taught that would be a good thing,

I understand a Chinese tanker carrying Iranian oil just crashed with a cargo ship in the South China Sea:

Welp, there goes our oil prices, every time a tanker gets hit or Nigerian pirates seize a tanker, the insurers raise the rates on the tankers.

Lloyds of London is one of the biggest insurers in the world.
