Iran bans english in primary schools.

DUBAI (Reuters) - Iran has banned the teaching of English in primary schools, a senior education official said, after the country’s Supreme Leader said early learning of the language opened the way to a Western “cultural invasion”.

“Teaching English in government and non-government primary schools in the official curriculum is against laws and regulations,” Mehdi Navid-Adham, head of the state-run High Education Council, told state television late on Saturday.

And Ukraine banned Russian at their schools. And Crimean schools in turn have purged Ukrainian curriculum (not to mention schools in the rebel republics of Donbass).

So what? It's up to every individual country, what their kids learn at school.

It is a shame tho....Some of the best Doctors I have worked with are Iranian. Top notch. We are facing a Doctor shortage in the next decade, this will make it worse.

Well, in this case it's the reason why. They don't want their people to get any 'ideas' about more freedom. They see that the younger generation is desperate for it, so they want to prevent another generation with these 'ideas'.

Does this "freedom" involve Iran turning into what Iraq, Syria, or, Allah forbid, Libya is like now?

? I am talking about Iranian citizens who want freedom from a strict, brutal theocracy.

"Freedom" doesn't seem to ever work out well in the Middle East... And same in ex-USSR too...

The Western way of democracy and all is great, and is working fine, for us here. Not all societies are developed far enough for it yet though.

And please, unless you personally know anyone actually in Iran, don't just repeat that media crap about "brutal theocracy". Media tends to exaggerate and sensationalize. Especially about a country the US establishment sees as an enemy.

Propaganda doesn't just come from "Russia Today" and such.
Thanks from Friday13, Leo2 and jacobfitcher
