I agree that it's two-sided. Netanyahu is an ass, and I don't support his "maintain the status quo" position. IMO, Israel has the means and responsibility to take the high road - which can be done without putting Israeli lives at risk or compromising security. The fact that Israel is coming across as the bad guy when facing enemies with stated goals of "obliterating Israel" and "refusing to negotiate" only proves that Israel isn't even trying to win on the public relations front.

Israel is so used to having the world hate them, I don't believe they really care what the world thinks.

Do you think Israel is always right in the military action they take? Notice the question mark, now answer the question.

    Edited to add:

"So you think Israel is totally innocent? If you do, then we just disagree. I'm not claiming Israel is the prime aggressor, just that this conflict is not one-sided. What do you think?"

In post number 12 here is two questions you say I didn't answer.

Yes, it is quite an arrogant country that way.

I guess Israel is not even to be questioned around here. Remember the bible says that Israel are God's chosen people, if you believe the bible to be true. I think the bible is a worthless book.

    I never understood that either.

If God created all humans in his own image, why would he consider one particular group somehow special and better than everyone else???

I'd say it's not being arrogant, it's being smart. Israel wouldn't exist if it weren't. They are right to take measures against those who profess that they want Israel destroyed.

I'll field this, but if Ian chimes in, I'm deferring to the expert.

Yes, the Bible describes Jews as the "Chosen People." This is commonly (and understandably) misinterpreted as a designation of elevated status; a notation of superiority.

The phrase "Chosen People" does not denote superiority.

It means that God has chosen the Jewish people to carry a burden of which non-Jews are spared. Among other things, it's why practicing Jews are required to follow dozens of dietary and behavioral rules that all Jews will agree are inconvenient as hell.

And because Jews are the Chosen People, only they are required to adhere to these rules, restrictions, and prohibitions. This is why Jews do not scorn non-Jews who don't follow these rules. Non-Jews are not "chosen," therefore the rules don't apply to them, and Jews understand that non-Jews are showing no disrespect by living their lives free of this burden.

So - "chosen" is not about superiority. It's not preferential treatment. It's about being chosen to carry a very specific responsibility when it comes to their obligations to God.

This is also why non-Jews living in Israel are free to operate non-Kosher restaurants. They are also free to work and conduct business on the Sabbath. And non-Jews living in Jewish communities in the United States are not shunned by their neighbors for violations of Jewish law.
