"Italy ready to discuss status of Crimea"

ROME, June 8. /TASS/. Italy’s new government will be discussing any issue, including the status of Crimea, Deputy Prime Minister, Interior Minister Matteo Salvini told reporters on Thursday.

"It is an issue of the foreign minister. We will be discussing everything," Salvini said when asked by TASS whether Crimea might be recognized as part of Russia.

Salvini is a leader of the Lega Nord party that formed a coalition government with the Five Star Movement. In October 2014, he visited Crimea in the capacity of the party leader and a member of the European Parliament (MEP). The European delegation was then the first to pay a visit to the Black Sea peninsula after the referendum on reunification with Russia.

Lega Nord was the first to recognize the results of the referendum.

Italy has been taking a turn towards Russia under its new government: Italy breaks with European allies and voices support for Russia after populist party takes power

They want to lift the sanctions: Italy’s New Leader Calls for End to Anti-Russia Sanctions

Even before though, some regions of Italy dominated by far right parties already openly supported Russia, on Crimea and such: 3rd Italian region recognizes Crimea

And Italian volunteers/mercenaries, also from neo-fascist parties, have fought among the pro-Russian separatist forces in Donbass, in East Ukraine

Interesting that an Italian soldier (?) seems to be wearing a Confederate flag...

That one is an ex-Paratrooper, I have seen interviews with him.

And that's the Novorossiya flag patch, the united common pro-Russian entity that all the separatists see themselves as part of, in Donbass, and lots of their troops wear that patch

    Thanks from Arkady
