    Ukraine may denounce Azov treaty

The Samopomich faction has submitted to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine a draft resolution on the appeal to President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak regarding the denunciation of the agreement between Ukraine and the Russian Federation on cooperation in the use of the Azov Sea and the Kerch Strait.

"The Samopomich faction has already registered in the Verkhovna Rada a draft resolution on the appeal of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to the president and the people of Ukraine. The proposed draft resolution requires the president of Ukraine to immediately submit to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine a draft law on the denunciation of a treaty between Ukraine and the Russian Federation on cooperation and use of the Sea of Azov and the Kerch Strait," Semen Semenchenko, Samopomich faction member, said at an evening session of the Ukrainian parliament on Tuesday.

The draft resolution on the appeal of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to the president of Ukraine and the defense minister of Ukraine regarding the agreement between Ukraine and the Russian Federation on cooperation in the use of the Azov Sea and the Kerch Strait (No. 8583) was registered on Tuesday, July 10, the official website of the Verkhovna Rada reported.

The trouble there began in April, with Ukraine detaining a Russian fishing boat from Crimea, the "Nord", see, again, in that thread.

The Russians, in turn, arrested two Ukrainian boats, and have now pretty much locked up the Azov, stopping and searching all vessels, including commercial cargo ships, heading to Ukraine through Azov:
Russia detains two Turkish vessels in the Azov Sea
Russia detains seven merchant ships in Azov Sea on Monday – Syroid
Russia illegally detains 93 Ukrainian vessels in Sea of Azov since April 29

The Russians have caused huge delays at Ukrainian Azov ports in Mariupol and Berdyansk, with some there, already in May, calling it a "blockade": Russia "blockades" Ukraine

In May, Russia moved five heavy armored gunboats from the Caspian Flotilla to Azov, to reinforce it's Naval and Coast Guard contingent there: Moscow Shifts Flotilla From Caspian to Azov Sea, Giving It a New Offensive Capability

And, by June, they've expanded their fleet there to four dozen vessels, effectively taking control of the small sea: Russia Expands Its Fleet in Sea of Azov to Some 40 Ships, Kyiv Warns

I have read a Ukrainian nationalist politician lady complain that now, the Russians are sailing "right off the beaches of our Berdyansk", like they own the place, stopping and inspecting any vessel they damn well please, while Ukraine's own pathetic excuse for a Coast Guard, who started this whole mess, now "hide in their harbor, with their tails between their legs, scared to even sail out to look the Russians eye to eye" lol

Meanwhile, Ukrainian fishermen are also afraid to go out on the Azov anymore, with stories, even aside of those couple boats the Russians arrested; they claim plenty had their fish and their equipment, nets and such, confiscated by the Russians too, even if were let go, in the end.

Pretty bad there now. And may well get worse after July 15th, after Putin's hands will no longer be tied by the World Cup. Wouldn't shock me if Trump also tells him to do whatever he wants there, at their upcoming summit lol

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said Ukraine will not tolerate the illegal capture of its and foreign ships heading to Ukrainian ports.

"We will not tolerate the illegal capture of Ukrainian and foreign ships moving toward Ukrainian ports, including Mariupol, aimed to stop the mining and smelting complex operating in [Ukrainian-controlled part of] Donbas," the President told a Svoboda Slova [Freedom of Speech] talk show on Ukraine's ICTV channel, answering a question on the situation in the Kerch Strait and the Sea of Azov, where Russians have drastically increased the number of inspections of Ukrainian vessels, the presidential press service said.

Poroshenko said he had ordered the Minister of Defense, Chief of the General Staff, Commander of the Naval Forces to take sufficient measures to stop the violation of the law and Russian provocations during the passage of ships through the Ukrainian Kerch Strait.

"We will not tolerate this. If we, Ukrainians, do not protect our land, nobody will protect it," he stressed.

"Seizing Mariupol and smashing the road by land to Crimea has always been a priority for the 'Russian world' strategists. The intelligence has constantly confirmed that," he said.

The president recalled that immediately after the liberation of Mariupol in 2014, he had met with local residents of Mariupol. "The main question was: 'You will not leave us, will you?' I said that I will stand side by side with them," he said.

Talk is cheap, Petya. What exactly are you gonna DO about it?
