U.S. Embassy In London Warns Americans To “Keep A Low Profile”

U.S. Embassy In London Warns Americans To “Keep A Low Profile” During Donald Trump Visit
The U.S. Embassy in London has warned Americans in the British capital to “keep a low profile” during the visit of their Commander-in-Chief as a result of the major protests that are expected.
Going to London? Better learn to speak with a British accent, or maybe get a phony Canadian passport. A T shirt that says, "Don't blame me, I didn't vote for the S.O.B." might help as well.

I find that difficult to believe. I don't think they blame all Americans for Trump.

There's obviously a Trumper in charge at the Embassy. Most Americans here will be blending in with the other protesters!

Probably not. That T shirt should be sufficient.

I think they mean “keep a normal profile”.

As in - “when you see a throng of protesters, don’t walk over and try to shout them down with a USA chant, or at least understand the risks of doing so”.

There’s “legal right to counter protest” but there’s also “pick your battles”.

I've read that London is rather violent these days and definitely hostile toward the President of the USA and his supporters.

What's going on with the local leadership in the UK these days?

When the US launched the illegal invasion of Iraq, and was committing our war crimes at Abu Ghraib and Gitmo, it was uncomfortable to be an American in a civilized country. So, as a tourist, some people took to sewing Canadian flags onto their backbacks, or something that would make it clear they were lefties, so they wouldn't be associated with the misconduct of the US leadership. In the Trump era, we're back to a similar situation.

It would be particularly unfair if people in countries like the UK held Trump against traveling Americans, since Trump-supporting Americans are a disproportionately provincial lot. Generally speaking, the kind of U.S. citizen you encounter on the streets of London or Paris isn't the kind who supports Trump. Of my Facebook "friends," the Trumpsters are, with only one exception, people whose idea of an exotic vacation is a trip to Orlando or, at most, some tourist cloister in the Caribbean.
