Oil companies sing Poor Poor Pitiful Me while raping consumers

Are the oil companies horribly abused and overtaxed? Are they simply gaming the system? Is the run away price of gasoline a symptom of a captialistic system badly gone awry?

Here's your chance to say what you think

I don't think the oil companies are over-taxed in the US, but this is only a small part of the supply chain. In other countries the oil companies are paying something like 65-85% effective tax, which I think most people would agree is probably not the most efficient rate to entice development.

I don't believe the speculation component is as strong as people seem to think, as there is no inventories growing.

What might be a greater driver is the subsidization of oil in the rising asian economies. This is in the process of being watered down as India, Malaysia and Indonesia have cut the subsidies and Chinese refineries are encountering unprecedented "maintenence problems" forcing them to (entirely coincidentally) shut-down during this severe loss-making period.

Hopefully these processes will cause an easing of demand, but threats to supply remain. The beginning of Kurdistan independent exports from start-up of DNO's Tawke field later this year might herald the beginning of a substantial new, cheap supply of high-quality oil to the world.

I think we should remove all taxes on oil companies. I don't see who that would offend except for government employees.

I disagree. I think we should end corporate personhood and tax the dickens out of them. I don't see who that would offend other than corporate shills.

I think they would pass it on to the consumer like all other industries do.

Is the wealth-envy instinct really running so rampant in this country? Envy is such a disgusting vice.
