Malmedy and Chenogne were the sites of war crimes in the European theater of WWII. In Malmedy, Waffen SS machine-gunned 84 American POWs on 12-17-44 during the Battle of the Bulge. American troops retaliated at Chenogne on 1-1-45 shooting 80 Wehrmacht POWs. Massacres of POWs like these were rare in the European theater unlike the Pacific, where it was basically a race war between the white and yellow races.
