Do you think a kid living in poverty has the same opportunities as trumps son, Barron, or Erin, or Donald jr?
The basic opportunities to seek education and purchase healthcare, yes. Of course wealth makes things much easier. That's why people aspire to be wealthy.

Many communities have pools paid for by tax dollars - swimmers, and non swimmers alike pay for them.
That doesn't make it right.
Look, I get it. You think everyone (well, the wealthy and middle class) should be forced to pitch in to pay for your political agenda. I don't. We'll never see eye to eye because I value my liberty and you value your security.

You don't purchase anything. If you would prefer to not participate and throw your card in the garbage and pay your medical with your cash you could always do that.
Screw the deductibles. Take the money from our bloated military budget to pay for it. One system -- no add-ons needed. No "private sector" beak wetting. Cover dental and eye-care as well. Regulate drug prices.

Call is Socialism -- I don't care. Just do it. What we have now is incredibly overpriced and hopelessly fucked up.
Deductibles and copays are considered cost sharing and to keep taxes lower, cost sharing is a good idea to manage costs. We have a safety net hospital locally who almost went under until Medicaid started requiring a 6.00 copay on some of their insurances, obviously, the disabled, elderly, etc..were exempt from the small copay. That small copay kept the doors open. You wouldn't think that a amount so small would help but with volume it made a big difference.
Too complicated. Medicare for all, one plan, one price, just like it is today. Only difference there, the wealthy do pay more, but not much.

The health insurance industry has had more than enough time to fix itself.
On Medicare Advantage plans, they announced they have adjusted after 3 years and new benefits would be coming. And they have.Dental, Vision, Hearing Aids, and more.

I just think people deserve the right to choose whether or not to participate in a government healthcare program, in both funding and access.
You know your dream of socialism/communism/marxism doesn't work without forcing people into your collective misery. I know it, too.
You can infer I'm a "rand-cultist" or "sociopath" for advocating freedom of choice, but that only illustrates your lack of intellectual capital here.
Any program that allows millions to go without healthcare will be a failure, we already know that.

We would need $2 trillion of new revenue to fund single payer as you describe. FICA taxes are 15% now and raise about $1 trillion.
Bullshit. the cost would be a function of what the deductible is. Are you saying this plan with a $500 deductible would cost the same as if it were $5000 deductible? You set that deductible as high as it needs to be to make the plan affordable. I'm sure those paying $1000 a month for insurance would not mind a jump to their FICA as long as that premium disappears.
