How was I supposed to take that sentiment?
That there is a contradiction in your reasoning. For example, withdrawing from the fight against ISIS and abandoning our allies could itself lead to dead Americans. And, of course, a dead American is a good American in ISIS eyes.

Turkey is an invader to Syria. It's not abandoning an ally to leave, it is pulling troops out of a war in which they do not belong in the first place.

If Syria goes and attacks Turkey, then pretty sure NATO forces the hand.

Outside of that, any tribal alliances are not worth the sand the allegiances are written in because those tribal factions will shift to whatever benefits them most by the day.
