Are you a moderate?

It may be hard, but Democrats have to deal with what happened. I do not like it one bit but we have to deal with facts.

In 2008 I did not know enough about Obama to vote for him. I wrote in Hillary. Had friends who did the same. But by 2012 I was happy to vote for Obama. In 2016 I disliked Sanders, but knew from the beginning what Republicans would do to her.

Wonderer is mostly right and I can remember how my Democratic friends went after me on the boards because I did not vote the way they wanted.

Arkady was the only one who spoke out for me. I despise Trump and think many good Republicans agree with me. It is time we begin to work together to get rid of the old, moribund people in both parties.

Jim Himes talked about that this morning. All 3 Leaders in the Democratic party are well over 70. They need to gracefully retire.

And what can I say about Mitch McConnell? He is as corrupt as they come.

I am not here to upset anyone. But we have to deal with why so many are angry and unhappy.
as Ian would most likely point out - the needs of the many are more important than the needs of the few, or the one.

I notice just a touch of elitism in my fellow Democrats who broadly lump portions of the country together without the understanding there are all kinds of people in every state.
I notice just a touch of elitism in you broadly lumping people together who you think are broadly lumping people together.

You know what? If you do not like the heat get out of the kitchen.:) I finally said how I feel. I think many Democrats do not know how elitist they sound. One of our major problems.

I was just pointing out that a lot of people don't know they sound elitist. Wait, you're not above them are you?

you are trying to over analyze it. think simple. Hillary offered status quo, Trump offered change. the rust belt was suffering from the status quo. can you figure it out from there?
What Trump offered was a mythical golden age, and a supposed magic wand that would take America back to that imaginary land.

How can you tell? Everything has moved so far right that I don't even know anymore. I know as far as social causes go, I am left. I strongly believe that if we want to remain a contender on the world stage, we need an educated populace. I think far too much money has already been spent on the military industrial complex, and that that money should be used on our infrastructure and to help eradicate poverty and educate Americans.

At this time, we are no longer the world leader. I'm not even sure the world has a leader anymore. Maybe Germany.

I don't know where we are headed, but I'm kind of resentful I'm glad to be sixty so I won't be around to watch it all fall apart. On the other hand, I do have a daughter and she has children.

I guess Christians will be safe? I wonder if it will be like reverse Mark of the Beast, where people will have to say they are Christians or risk the wrath of the state.
When they make those political ideological scales they use me as the standard for the extreme right.

Basically you can't go further than Spookycolt.

And we are fine as a nation.

The election of Trump was just America rejecting the huge push to the left from democrats, they are saying no, we don't want that, keep your socialism away.

Its fine for Europe but we are not Europe, we are America and are distinctly different.

And Christians won't be fine, we will be put to the fire as the Bible predicts but it will test us, we see it now in our fight against the liberals in everything from removing god from schools to their yearly war on Christmas and it will only get worse.

The little children in the Middle East who were slaughtered by ISIS because they wouldn't deny Jesus is something many Christians will have to face someday.

Well, right now I am trying to get posters to understand why workers became Republicans, then Trumpsters. I do not agree with them, but they think this way. Clinton signed NAFTA, the jobs left. That is all they see.
NAFTA went into effect on January 1, 1994. Here is a link to the unemployment rate in America, year by year:

US Unemployment Rate by Year

Here is what happened to the unemployment rate in America for the rest of the 1990's, after NAFTA went into effect:

1993: 7.30%
1994: 6.60%
1995: 5.60%
1996: 5.60%
1997: 5.30%
1998: 4.60%
1999: 4.30%
2000: 4.00%

In 2000, we had several months of 3.9% unemployment. More to the point, the unemployment rate fell, and fell, and fell, and fell, and fell, and fell, for six years after NAFTA was ratified. Some people seem to have forgotten that the American economy was BOOMING in the 1990's. Clintonomics. Most people have FOND memories of that era, because real wages were rising pretty smartly during that decade, especially in the second half of the decade. It explains why Bill Clinton left office as a VERY popular President, despite the Monica Lewinsky scandal, despite impeachment.

The BIG LOSS of manufacturing jobs in America did not happen until the Presidency of George W. Bush, under whom America lost more than 27% of our manufacturing jobs.

Don't fall for revisionist Republican economic history, MaryAnne. It seems as though you are beginning to.

I read all the posts. And I am telling you why workers became first, Republicans, then Trumpsters.

I am a solid Democrat, but I also live among those who are angry. They do not want to hear what we think. We need to listen to them for a change.
I am angry as well. Do they need to listen to me?
