Read about this a couple of days ago.

In her statement McSally suggested that she had been assaulted on multiple occasions. It did strike me as a little weird that she had never reported any of the events.

..
That is not even remotely weird. Especially in the military.

How the Military Retaliates Against Sexual Assault Victims

Reporting a rape in the military is a good way to end your own career. If this is what happens today, imagine how much worse it used to be.

What is stopping her from NAMING the superior officer who raped her TODAY? She is a sitting U.S. Senator! There is, apparently, no statute of limitations for this crime.

I have read a few books written by women in the military and it is almost like they are expected to "take one for the team" when it comes to assault and piggish behavior in general. Women who complain are shunned. Another term for it "turning your back on them" I watched the Town Hall tonight and Tulsi addressed this concern.

it's hard enough to prove without all this time passing. The guy may already be retired. Or could be she has other reasons as well.

Russian military had this kind of screwed up shit for years, hazing, abuse, including sexual violence, mainly man on man over there though, between conscripts...

These days, I am told the Navy is the worst over there, simply because the Army been modernizing more than they have, getting all kinds of new equipment, and getting pickier about the quality of draftees they take in; while the Navy gets the leftover dregs and rejects... Plus, they have Military Police on all bases now. No MPs on Navy warships, only security detachments of Marines, who themselves love to bully the shit out of young sailors...

in her own words, she says that it felt like the system was raping her all over again. It's evident that it's still a painful event for her to discuss. So, it's understandable that she'd proceed cautiously.

That is itself not unusual. Many victims do not report, especially in the military, where the immediate chain of command ends up antagonistic toward the reporter rather than the reported.
I think that's what happened to one of the ladies featured in The Invisible War documentary. A commanding officer was poking her with his hardon and when she resisted he hit her and broke something in her face. Then she reported him to the chain of command and they didn't ignored her.

Again, women do not report if it involves powerful men - like the ones the work for.

Westein had a whole campaign against the women who came out over the years. Finally, it got traction

They will ruin women's lives in a heartbeat. Look at Dr. Ford, for example, had to move because of death threats.
