Giant mosquitoes have emerged in North Carolina post-Florence, an unwelcome aftermath of the hurricane. I bet you didn't know that there are 61 different species of mosquito, in North Carolina alone:

I was interested to read that the state of North Carolina is spending some $4 million on mosquito control programs.

That's SOCIALISM, dude!!

Why don't you people down there take care of your OWN mosquito problems, without getting big government involved?!?

Indeed, socialism! Why can't individuals swat their own giant mosquitoes without relying on big government?

And, hasn't PETA heard about the great conspiracy against our six legged friends? It's time they spoke out against that animal cruelty.

I remember seeing some garishly bad late night Grade B- science fiction film about mutated mosquitoes grown to human size after a nuclear power plant accident spewed radioactive gunk all over the place, and humans were fighting these REALLY giant-sized mosquitoes with everything from pitchforks to shotguns to baseball bats.

Anyone else remember that movie? The name of it? I wonder if it's on Blu-Ray!!

Is it really socialism?

This is surprisingly close to the argument levied by the right about socialism.

Yes, that's it!! And it IS on Blu-Ray! I'm ordering it! It has a 4.5 stars out of 5 rating on Amazon!

But I had the plot a bit wrong....it has been DECADES since I've seen it.....here is a snippet of a review from Amazon:

A snazzy spaceship crashes into a lake. A mosquito samples the blood from a dead alien and presto, BIG mosquitos on a rampage in a National Park. The body count is high, dead campers strewn everywhere....

Fun family-oriented movie!

By the way, I want people to know that there is NO truth to the ugly rumor that the mosquito is the state 'bird' of Minnesota. You may have heard this from various 'jokesters' who are really nothing but Minnesota-haters. They're just haters, that's all they are. Yes, the mosquitos get big in Minnesota, we know that, but no bigger than your average hummingbird, and those are the smallest birds there ever was.

The actual true state bird of Minnesota, and I've got proof of this in my link, is the common loon:

State Bird of Minnesota | Common Loon

The common loon is NOT to be confused with your typical Donald Trump supporter. Common loons can fly, under their own power.
