The presidents of three aviation unions — the National Air Traffic Controllers Association, the Air Line Pilots Association and the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA — issued a statement Wednesday urging Congress and the White House to fund the government due to increasing risks to the air safety environment.

“We have a growing concern for the safety and security of our members, our airlines, and the traveling public due to the government shutdown. This is already the longest government shutdown in the history of the United States and there is no end in sight. In our risk averse industry, we cannot even calculate the level of risk currently at play, nor predict the point at which the entire system will break. It is unprecedented."

The big picture: It's Day 33 of the government shutdown, and neither side has offered a realistic path forward. The Washington Post reported Wednesday that acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney has asked agency leaders for a list of the "highest-impact programs" that could be affected if the shutdown continues into March and April.

It would be pure insanity to keep the govt. closed until March or April.

Do your job, Mitch!!!

One day of airlines being grounded will grind the US to a hault. Then you’ll see the govt shutdown end faster than Trump can tweet.

Wrong... There's a clear solution that has been offered... Democrats are too interested in working towards other countries interests over your own.

Wrong. Trump’s “solution” is to offer a temporary DACA deal (after he ended DACA in the first place) for a permanent wall.

In other words, he’s trying to offer an end to a crisis that HE created for a “solution” to a made up crisis on the southern border.

Pelosi (and the majority of Americans who don’t support Trump or his masturbatory wall) is smarter than Trump. His little game isn’t going work with her. She’s not Paul Ryan.

Mexico isn’t paying for his wall, and neither am I.

It didn't matter; Pelosi rejected the offer before it was even made...
Trump could have announced that he would pay to import Dems-13 by the train load and then eat Pelosi out for an hour after.... BUT IT WAS ALREADY REJECTED. She showed that she was unwilling to negotiate on anything.

It's ok, you got another division of invaders headed to your southern border...

I doubt a smoking hole full of dead babies will sway Trump. He doesn't care about anything except himself.

These are people's choices -
  • Fly, take your chances
  • Travel by other some other means
  • Take a holiday whilst shutdown continues
  • Just don't travel
Pick one. Very simple.
