Columbus didn't 'discover' America - it was full of people who'd got there before him. What are you celebrating?

The Aztecs were native to this hemisphere.
Yeah, once their ancestors moved into North America from Asia. Even the area the Aztecs occupied when cortes arrived were once occupied by another indian tribe. There were a predatory people who conquered surrounding tribes they dominated, and sometimes, sacrificed in their religious ceremonies.

Nobodies hands are free of guilt, Maddie, nobodies.

Hardly. Your pictures are of Spaniards mistreating "native americans" not "Africans."

BTW, one of them shows Spaniards are eating indians. I'm guessing the Spaniards are guilty of much but cannibalism wasn't one of them.
Do you understand what "equivalent" means? The point here is that just because Incas sacrificed humans doesn't justify the raping, pillaging, and extermination of the people who were here. By your logic it is only wrong to torture and enslave a society of angels. Anyone who lives in an imperfect society is fair game.

And no, the naked people depicted in the images are natives. The artists of the time really were only practiced at drawing people to look like fattened European nobility. According to De Las Casas, as a torture the natives who were enslaved for mining were starved and only allowed to eat the flesh of those who were killed. That is what is being depicted.

Yes, the "native americans" didn't have clean hands themselves. Look, invasions are bad but they have taken place throughout human history. Are you bitching about the mongol invasion of India, the Middle East, or Europe? Where's the "outrage" about the depredations of the Mongols?

Just when have you whined about the depredations of the Sioux against the Cheyanne who took land from the Crow who then turned around and scouted for the U.S. cavalry in an effort to "get back" at them? Just when have you managed to do that? Just when have you even attempted to take a colorblind approach to human interactions either in the past or the present?

It's tiresome. It's tedious. Pissing on white historical figures because of something that happened 500 years ago is just stupid. You do it. You be the self loathing white who's managed to internalize a racism of your own phenotype. I'll keep the Italian. Phfft!

So is extolling them for virtues they did not possess, and celebrating them for things they did not do. Columbus did not discover America. He was not even the first European to get here.
